Question PC for a peasant

Hi there

I made this list https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/KtRLd9 do you think the parts are OK I just want to do some Video editing and some Gaming on Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1 and I wont be doing much more, is this list overkill? will the parts be OK together?

Considering pcp takes the guess work out of compatibility everything should work just fine. My advice though would be biting the bullet and going with 12th gen CPU / board as it wouldn't be much more and you reap the benefits of the extra cores depending on which model you select.

You should not be building a PC in late 2022 with Intel 10th gen (Comet Lake) CPU/motherboard.

Go with the Intel 12th gen (Alder Lake) or Ryzen 5000 series instead. i5-12400 or Ryzen 5600X are some options to read further about.

Plus, if you're going after a budget build, you don't need such an expensive CPU cooler. There are plenty of good ones out there that cost half of what a Noctua NH-D15 costs. And some of the newer Intel and AMD CPUs come with acceptable coolers as well.

Also, use the savings you get from that to get a NVMe SSD over a SATA SSD. Not much price difference, and they are much faster.

Hi guys, the thing is cost though that's why I went for a 10th gen cpu as that saves me around 80 quid,,,,,, UsandThem and other peeps can you tell what is an alternative good cooler, that would be helping me out big time.

This is what I'm using with a 12700k and it keeps it at room temp most tof the time. This makes up for 1/2 of your 80q.

This would be a overall better build for this type of work. It uses a 12400F, NH-U12S (could use a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black for £20 less), B660 DDR4, RX 6600, 1TB M.2 SSD, the same case & RAM. You didn't pick a PSU so I didn't either but you can get a EVGA G5 600W Modular 80+ Gold PSU for £60 which would be more than sufficient. Plus the Fractal Design Meshify C is just £2 more, Corsair 4000D Airflow (Black) is the same price as the 200R while being a better case.

PSU are standardized and work across different boards. The only issues are when you go down to a sff size and the amount of power needed for the combined components. Go into pcp and check the power needed for the build. 600W is a good starting point for most ADL builds with a GPU.

The board you picked won't but there is a ASUS TUF GAMING B660M-E D4 that is about £20 more than the board in the list I posted, it's a very good board and only takes it to £837 total. As far as compatibility for your list, the D15 is 165mm which is the max height for the 200R so it will fit but might be tight to the side panel.

But can I get some help please with the type of RAM I should be getting and GFX Card with 2 HDMI and a DP, and a Case with decent cable management, I don't do RGB, bearing in mind I am only play BF1 and BF4 at most and I don't want to get a full tower but a Mini Tower that has USB on the front panel and not on top.

It's no problem at all. The PSU is fine, obviously if you later go for a 300W+ GPU then a higher quality PSU would be in order. For GPU & Case PC Part Picker is good but I find Skinflint gives you so many filters you can narrow your choice down quite easily. A 3050 for example is more than enough for 1080p and even 60fps+ at 1440p in BF1 & 4. In BF5 it gets 90fps+ at 1080p & 70fps+ at 1440p. A 6600 will be 40%+ faster in those games for similar cost. Case on the other hand, there aren't reaslly any good cheap options with front facing I/O that has even just decent cable management. Your best bet is a Fractal Design Pop Mini, Meshify C, a Phanteks P3x0A, P400A or a Corsair 4000D Airflow, 200R. RAM there is nothing wrong with some simple Corsair Vengeance LPX or Kingston FURY beast, it's not flashy but it's good RAM.

DDR5 can be had for not much more than DDR4 if you don't try and go all out on Cas Latency/MHz. DDR4 go with 3600Mhz & Cas 16-18, 16GB is easily had for under £100. Again that depends on what board you go with so just match the board to the DDR4 or 5 and you'll be good.

Thanks for all the info, I used to have a Fractal Design Arc Mini which was a very nice case so I think I shall get another case from Fractal I like Corsair but never been one for the smoked glass side panel, RAM I think I will go with DDR4 but the GFX card is still so much money.

I used to have a Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1060 WF2 3GB GDDR5 I know that's an older card but is their anything that is the equivalent or just a bit better as that worked fine for BF1 and 4 when I used to play them some 8 years ago, I just gotta be careful with the wonga, £250 maximum really.

Oh and one last thing, what sort of MoBo, as I am not a gamer but play the odd game but will be doing some photo and video editing would a ASUS Prime H610M-K D4 mATX be OK or should I get better?

If you hurry you can get a 2060 6GB for a cheap price, I'll PM you the link so you get the best chance to get it. A 6500XT 4GB wouyld get you well over 60fps at 1080p in BF 1 & 4 and can be had for around £170+.

As far as the H610 boards, you can only use 2 sticks (fine if that's all you plan to use) and don't buy above 3200MHz as that's as fast as that chipset supports. Something like this would be ideal: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07T637...BH&creativeASIN=B07T637L7T&tag=geizhals-am-21

Of the 2 boards, the ASUS Prime H610M-A D4 is better in both features and cooling on the VRM but it's not worth more than £10 difference in price.

If you are tight on cash, think about dropping down to a 12400 or 12400f cpu. They also come with a stock HSF. While not the best compared to an aftermarket HSF, they are adequate and may be enough for your workload. You can always upgrade later if necessary. While the Samsung SSD is good, you might be able to get something a bit cheaper. Get a couple of cheap 8GB DDR4 3200 RAM, CL16 or 18, as I believe 3200 is highest speed the H610 can support. No need to get fancy. As far as GPU, it's just a matter of lucking out with a good price. Look at the AMD 6600 or so.

Also, why not re-use your existing case if you are happy with it?

Hi thanks for the helpful info, that 12400 seems like a better deal for me, I did have a nice case but I sold it some time ago, now I have a flimsy junk case with the lowest spec rubbish your eyes could ever feast upon
