PC fax?

There's a Brother 6-in-1 multifunction at Staples that says it can "send and receive faxes on the PC". Anyone know how this works? Does it transfer it through the USB cable, or do you have to route the signal through a phone line to a modem inside your computer and then to a software application that will receive it? Seems like a nice feature...

Other than that, what are some other PC fax applications? I'd like to do fax sending and receiver on my PC, instead of having to print them out and run them through the multifunction fax manually.

or use the free fax included with win xp (or linux, if you're using that)

I only mention it because it seems like so few people know it exists as an optional component

Where's it at? I run 2k and XP Pro.

start-->settings-->add/remove programs-->add/remove components

you'll need your xp cd...

That's for xp. I think the path is the same/very-similar in win2k
