I came across this program today called PC "Decrapifier".

Is this for real? And, has anyone used it here? On Windows 7?

I would love to streamline my system and make it robust as every few weeks my OS drives seem to be losing space by a few GBs (?).

What's the verdict on this one?

Oh, and here's the link to the "decrapifier": http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/

And, I love the name!

I have heard of it. It probably clears the temp and cache files form programs and web browser. CCleaner is what I have used for years.

The correct way is to not load apps that are unnecessary.

win 7 disk fresh install
install drivers
install apps you wish to use.
end.

every other method is guaranteed to not leave program/registry fragments and definitely not a microsoft support solution.

Windows has a disk cleanup feature since XP - you have to be careful the temp dir can be used for upgrades (that require reboots). cleaning them when an AV program is pending a reboot for a new driver can wreck things real good.

I have heard that this is a good app to run after purchasing an OEM machine to remove a lot of the bloatware if you don't feel like doing a reinstall.

EDIT: zokudu already mentioned it.

I think it was originally meant as a tool to help remove much of the trialware/bloatware that is pre-installed on most new PCs (I think it was originally Dell Decrapifier).

The space getting taken up on your drive is restore points, and shadow copies. If you aren't pressed for space, I wouldn't worry about it. It could save your ass one day. It doesn't do anything one way or the other for routine performance.

CCleaner is a widely known favorite and it originated as "Crap Cleaner". Of course with greater popularity comes greater sensibility to cater to the prudes and thus the simplification to CCleaner.

All it does is list whatever programs have registered uninstallers, it doesn't even use any special uninstall/removal technology or scripts. It just runs the application's own registered uninstaller, same thing that you can do from Add/Remove Programs (XP/2000) or Programs and Features (Vista/7).

I thought it might also search for and remove garbage registry entries or something. Anyway, yeah, it's just a bloat remover for OEM computers, not a system optimizer or 'cleaner'.

I think it's fairly well regarded, but certainly not necessary if you know what things to uninstall on your own, or just format/clean install.
