PC Cut Out

My PC:
Athlon 64 3200
MSI mainboard
Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro Ultimate
Antec Sonata Case - 380W Antec Truepower
120GB WD SATA drive
Kingmax PC3500 RAM
Just completely cut out while playing call of duty, strangely the power light was still on, and it seemed to be making its usual low amount of noise, but the monitor cut off and went to no power signal, I don't think it's a problem with the monitor though as the sound cut out too. I restarted the PC and now it works fine. Any idea as to why this has happened to it? Could it be to do with cool and quiet?

Is this the only time that it has happened?

Any overclocking?

I would assume PSU, but that Antec 380W should be plenty...

This is the first time, I've only had the PC running since this morning, I haven't overclocked it. The only thing I've done is enable coll and quiet, and change the RAM settings from auton(DDR200) to DDR400.

Same thing JUST happened to me a few days ago. Had a 250W PSU powering a system I've had running for 2 years. When running graphic programs (games) that same exact thing would happen. Had to pull out my power cord in the back and plug it back in to get it going again. If it keeps happening its most likely your PSU. I replaced mine with a 350Watt Antec while I wait for my replacement in the mail and it fixed my problem.

I didn't have to unplug anything, nor did the power light turn off, and I'm sure I could still hear the PC running, it came back on fine when I pressed the restart button.

Hmm,

Any other issues as of yet?

Loop memtest86 to check on the PC3500...

Up your Vdimm to 2.8V, i have had some stability issues when running dual channel, along with other setups at default VDIMM.

When I just went back on to Call Of Duty, all the graphics settings were at the lowest level and looked terrible, and so did the sound. When I clicked optimal system settings it set it back to how it should be. When I checked other games, the settings were the same, could uit actually have been a fault with the game? But the monitor wasn't receiving a signal, and no sound from the speakers.

Absolutely

Make an MS-DOS boot disk and just run it from there..

IF you unsure how to create a boot disk, go into my computer -> right click on floppy-> format -. MS dos Startup

:)

I've disabled cool and quiet as I don't really trust it now, I'd rather the heatsink running at full speed all the time. Hopefully it won't shutdown while playing Call Of Duty again.

Do I just copy the file called memtest to the disk? I copied install and rawrite too and it came up with disk I/O error when I tried to boot from it.

My PC Mark score came out as 4003, and when compared with others it seems that the RAM is performing at the speed that it should.

Not good, If you mean errors in Memtest 86 of course..

Any errors is cause for an RMA.

It is possible for a system to function in Windows and error out in MT86...

However, if that was what you were referring to, you need to get an RMA.

There is an updated version of Memtest now: http://www.memtest.org/
Based on the well-known original memtest86 written by Chris Brady, memtest86+ is a port by some members of the x86-secret team. Our goal is to provide an up-to-date and completly reliable version of this software tool aimed at memory failures detection.

I got an unexpected interrupt - Halting message from memtest. Should I, therefore, get the RAM refunded? Is it important if the PC is performing properly? I have recently discovered that the error in Call Of Duty is common, and is not realted to particular hardware.

Hold up, you said that it didn't make the disk properly, right?
That doesn't mean you have memory errors, more likely that the memtest program is partially corrupted.

Get another disk, format (full) in Windows first to make sure that the disk is okay, and then try to make the memtest floppy again.

If you get bizarre codes appearing on the screen as it's loading, the disk is corrupt. Throw it out and try another :)

hi, i've had a similar problem, which just started again a few days ago...
the power just cuts out, and i have to pull the power cord out, and put it back in before it will start up again. it was happening a couple of months ago, so i got a new PSU (450, if i remember right), and all seemed ok.
but a few weeks ago started again, occasionally, just after booting into windows mainly. it can be days, or weeks between it happening, so it didnt seem like too much of a problem, but today had to reboot about 5 times before i could succesfully get into windows :eek:/
