Was watching a movie on my computer today and my computer crashed and now it no longer boots into the Bios. It just starts up and nothing happens. I've taken out my tv card and disconnected the non-essential parts but it still doesn't start and was wondering if anybody had any ideas on what the problem might be. My setup is as follows:

Athlon XP 2500+
Shuttle AN35N Deluxe
Buffalo 512MB PC3200
ATI Radeon 9600
Maxtor 120GB 8MB
WD 60GB 2MB
Lite-on 411S
Mitsumi 4808
Leadtek Winfast 2000XP Deluxe

Here's a shot ing the dark. Is your PSU working, are your fans, CPU, case, and PSU fan comming on. If they are and you have everything off your motherboard take a flashlight and look closely at the caps on the motheboard. See if any have expanded or even poped. You can't miss them. buckmasterson is right about the temps. We also need a little more info on you system. You have alot of goodies in there, so we need to know what size your PSU is. Please let us know what is happening. We'll be here to help. Good luck.

Happy Hoildays

I'm using and Antec LanBoy which comes with a 350W power supply, and temps I have no idea what temps i was running at the time since the movie was in full screen. I wasn't overclocking. when it starts upfans turn on but nothing happens, no signal is sent to the computer and the bios doesn't complete since it doesn't beep that it completed. There are no beeps and nothing is heard through the speakers. I looked at all the capacitors and they all look normal and none look inflated. thank you. Hopefully it won't be the video card or hard drive since i just sent in the MIR.

Here's another thing to try. Pull and reinstall all of your electrical and ribbon connectors. If that doesn't work then hook up your motherboard, CPU, memory and somekind of a video out (video board or on board video). With this setup your system should boot up. If it does then start adding on your equipment one at a time till you system fails. Start with your HD, then your CD and so on. If it doesn't boot then you have at least narrowed it down. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Unplug the hard drive ide connector then boot up. Do you get anything on the screen? When you say no signal is sent to computer do you mean your monitor? Reseat the
video card in the slot.

reset the BIOS with the jumper on the mobo.......this kind of problem can be almost anything, its really hard to diagnose. Expect to have a million suggestions thrown at you. It's like asking your mechanic over the phone.."Whats the clicking noise my car is making?"

I'm thinking CPU for some reason. Can you get your hands on one that someone else has, even a duron, just to check it out. I nearly fried an Athlon one time after installing a DVD in a guy's machine and playing a movie. His CPU temp (un-known to me until I installed MBM after words) was running at 50c idle. I was lucky I caught it and replaced the heatsink.

I have cleared the bios, reseated the video card and disconnected from the ide channels except for the primary hard drive and it still doesn't boot. I don't think it can be the cpu overheating since before this happened I had run MBM and my idle temps were in the low 40s and under Prime95 my temps were around 49. I also noticed that when my computer starts to boot up it sounds like the hard drive is being accessed and it stops. Thank you

Have checked the memory and video card on another system and they worked fine. The only thing to check is the motherboard, cpu and hard drive. I'm thinking it's the motherboard since if it was the cpu that was fried the bios would beep indicating that the cpu was bad and since it makes no beeping sounds it doesn't go into post. Is the only way to check if its the motherboard is to check it with another cpu? or is there another way. If it was the power supply none of the fans would turn on, right? thank you.

It still doesn't boot up. Is there an easy way to determine if it's the cpu or the motherboard since I don't want to take my sisters computer apart. Would the motherboard be the most likely defective part since it doesn't post. My thinking is that if it was the cpu there would be a post code error on startup and since there is none then the motherboard doesn't go into post.

probably motherboard. if it was CPU, with mobo being fine, it would boot up, and the mobo would complain to you about "NO CPU DETECTED WAHWAHWAH" or some similar error. try clearing your CMOS, though. unplug ALL power from your computer, press the power button, then turn off the PSU, then press pwoer button again (that basically just drains power and whatnot that ,may still be stored in caps and such). unplug the 20-pin ATX power connector, remove the CMOS battery, and then set the CMOS clear jumper (leave it for some time).

try it again after that. that basically just cuts off all power from the CMOS chip, clearing the settings.
