Is it okay to have this little 2" case speaker underneath my Western Digital HDD? My HDD is brand new so I want to make it last as long possible. It shouldn't cause any damage becuase the magnet is weak right? 😕
The magnet isn't powerful enough to penetrate the drive shielding, or to actually erase the drive platter. Even if you actually stuck the magnet on the drive it wouldn't be an issue.
Even though the magnet isn't likely strong enough to do serious damage, I always move them from that location.
. I use foam mounting tape and stick the things out of harm's way.

If you have ever opened a hardrive up, you'll find there is a VERY strong magnet (always Neodymium) no more than a few CM from the platters. This magnet is for the electromagnet that moves the drive's read/write heads.
It would take a VERY strong magnet to even disturb the data on the platters. Thats why some PC case makers put the speaker in that location. Its not going to hurt anything 😀
