Ok, so my friend is ordering his parts in a couple days. This is what he has come up with. It looks good to me but other opinions never hurt. He is pretty much sold on everything but the video card

CPU: i3-2100 - $125
MOBO: BIOSTAR H61MGC - $50
Case: CM Storm Scout - $70
DVD drive: ASUS Sata - $19
Monitor: Acer S231HLbid Black 23" 5ms HDMI LED-Backlight - $160
Video: He can't decide between a 6770 or a GTX 550ti

Is your existing G.Skill RAM 1.5V DDR3?

I would spend a bit less on the case... At the moment, CM HAF 912 $50AR is about the best deal, given the free shipping. If you can afford at least a HD 6850 that'd be good. Here

1. Get a Radeon 6790 over the 6770 -- the 256bit memory bus makes a HUGE difference.
2. Don't use a Rosewill 700W supply -- get a 380W Antec EarthWatts or something. I used the 380W EarthWatts in a build I did very similar to this and it works beautifully. Also, I trust Antec/Corsair/Seasonic type brands more than, say, Rosewill (I've had Rosewill supplies die on me before -- never an Antec).

Agree.

The rest of the parts look fine given the budget. Don't expect wonders out of the mobo, but it will do its just. The Rosewill Green is OK-ish, not what I would have picked for this build, but not absolute trash either.
