so after rocking my bare-bone system for a year and a half, i decided it was time to upgrade things a little.

new stuff:

Mach Speed Viper V880DAS ATX Socket A (462) Mobo
Thermaltake RX Series CL-P0295 Size: 92mm CPU Cooling Fan/Heatsink
Cooler Master eXtreme Power RS-430-PMSR/P ATX12V Max: 400W, Peak: 430W Power Supply
pqi Power Series 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory

old stuff:
AMD Barton Athlon XP 3000+ 2.167Ghz 400MHz Socket A CPU
Radeon 9600 XT Video Card (128MB, AGP 8X, 2D/3D)
pqi Power Series 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory

obviously there's more than that (cooling, hdd's, etc.) but i believe that's all that's relevant to my problem at hand.

this is the first time i've ever built a pc from the ground up, but i feel it went together rather easily. i remembered to constantly ground myself and all that..

problem is when i first turned her on i got nothing onscreen. everything powered up just fine (assuming so because of the spinning fans and lights) but i got nothing on my monitor. at first i thought it might be an issue with it not auto-recognizing my agp graphics card, so i tossed in an older pci card i had sitting in my closet.. unfortunately i ended up with the same results. i know the older items are still good, as i had just been using them in my old system.. i'm thinking that maybe i got a bad mobo?

any insight as to what might be going on here would be greatly appreciated, as being without my computer is killing me.

nada.. no beeps at all. for 'its and giggles i put the cpu/cooler/ram/vid card back into my old ssf case and she fired right up. i'm thinkin that either the mobo is bad, or it doesn't support my barton cpu.. i'm gonna rma it back to newegg and then drop a line to mach speed to find out whether it's compatible with my cpu or not. i hope so, cuz the board has some pretty cool features to it.. also, finding a socket A mobo is getting harder and harder

You might want to check the manual and see if there any any jumpers for the barton that you are using. Sometimes a jumper in the wrong place can cause the PC not to come on at all.

yeah, i've scoured that manual front to back several times.. can't find anything about a barton-specific cpu. oh well.. will hopefully get ahold of mach speed on monday to find out what i need to do.
