PC build for friend

Built a PC for a friend at work and now he is saying that it will not accept the drivers for his ATI 9000 video card. I tested it using a GF4 MX440 card and everything went well while I was using it. Also, when he has two windows open he getting a virtual RAM warning, plus IE6 will not open for him.

I built this PC and tested it for two days before giving it to him. When I was testing it everything ran fine with no problems what so ever.

Here are the specs to the PC:
Shuttle AN35N mobo
AMD 2500+
2 x 256 Kingston Value RAM
Generic DVD burner
Seagate 80GB HDD
Cooler Master Aero Lite HSF
Fortron 300 watt PSU
Windows XP Pro OS

What could be the problem?

This is why people should never offer to build PCs, it's your fault when the user completely wrecks it.

Could be hardware:
* bad memory stick
* bad video card
* bad hard drive
* bad motherboard IDE controller

-> run memtest, drive test from manufacturer

Could be your fault
* using more than 1 partition and not leaving enough space on C: for the swap file

Could be user stupidity
* Worm, trojan, spyware, adware, virus

Did someone remove the nVidia drivers b4 trying to install the ATI? And maybe run DriverCleaner?

Did he disable AV proggie b4 trying to install?

Will check and see if the nVidia drivers were removed and use a driver cleaner. I'm going there in a few hours and see what's going on with the PC. Also, would that be causing the virtual memory warning?

Honestly I don't know, never had such a problem. HERE'S some info on it. But I worry since his IE won't open he may have a virus on there?

Good Luck with it, and if he has an AV proggie, remeber to turn it off b4 trying to install the new drivers.

I loaded anti-virus, anti-spyware, Sygate Firewall personal use and activated Windows firewall. The IE issue does sound like a virus, or maybe he installed another AV too and that's conflicting with the other AV.

I'd say try reformatting first if possible. Solves most problems.

are you at his house looking at his rig now or playing phone tag . and will it post with his vidcard .pause the post and see if your reading 512for
two sticksof mem . i once didnt have stick of mem not seated right and gave me that same message. grasping at straws here. i hate to reformat .

Well, it looks like this will have to wait a while since I gave him a call and he's not at home. Will update this when I have been able to see the machine. Will check to see if the memory is seated correctly as it may have been moved during transportation.
