PC Build assistance please!

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a little while now, and I have been looking into building a new gaming rig.

All I have right now is a Radeon 5770, a DVD-Drive and I just bought an i5-2400 processor. Everything else I plan to buy new (sans keyboard/mouse and monitor).

The hard part for me is the motherboard. I really don't know what I am looking for, or what I SHOULD be looking for. I don't plan on overclocking, so I don't know if the heat sink/fan that came with the processor is good enough.

Here is what I was thinking price-wise for the rest of my components (please tell me if I am being unreasonable)

RAM ~$85 (2x 4GB)

Hard Drive ~$90 (1 - 2 TB)

PSU ~$60 (this any good?)

Case ~$90 COOLER MASTER Storm Scout SGC-2000-KKN1-GP Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Mobo ~???

I was thinking Corsair for the RAM. Other than that, I am really at a generous poster's mercy for advice.

Thanks!

Newegg has two deals on 8GB of RAM. $60 for some value based GSkill, and $65 for some RipJaws series GSkill. Really considering two sets of the value, but my wife would kill me... oh well.

Any H67 chipset motherboard from brands like Asus, MSI, Gigabyte or ASRock will do just fine considering the Core i5 2400 that you have bought does not have any OC features enabled like the K type CPUs. I'm unsure of the quality of an open box but there is a MSI H67MA-E35 going for $54. This ASRock board seems nice as well.

That PSU will do just fine for the parts you're putting.

Okay, I bought the case and PSU I listed above, the HDD mvbighead suggested, and the following RAM:

Looks good! 🙂

How do I pick out a motherboard?

Figure out the features you want, then pick the least expensive board from one of the major players (ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, or ASRock) that has those features. As dma suggested, an H67 board will do everything you need. The ASRock H67M will do everything that you need for $85.

Swift action! 🙂

Good luck with the build, & please post back with your experience to let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the help guys. I got everything up and running in just about an hour.

I was amazed at the quality difference in even Starcraft 2. I had no idea that game could look that good.

I did run into a problem with AV software and my internet. I started a thread about it here http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2172430

I installed MS Essentials and my internet cut out. I could ping addresses and get results, but browsers couldn't connect. I figured out I could get it to work if I turned off "Network Inspection System."

Oh, and this case is freaking awesome.
