PC budget build

Hello,

So my current PC has a dying AGP video card so i figure time to buy a pc rather than replace or upgrade the card. But I am on a tight budget as you will see:

1.PC will be used for general email, music, movies, and school work. There will also be casual gaming. I don't plan to get into any games but I want to the ability to play a game if i feel like trying it out. Right now I am looking at Fallout 3, sf4, Crysis (maybe). And whatever game here and that catches my eye. Also, I have a 19inch lcd monitor so I will play at low resolutions (1280x1024 probably).

2. I am hoping to spend around 400-450 on the parts I need.

3.Canada.

4. No brand preference

5. Using lcd19inch monitor, 550watt Coolmaster silent Extreme Power. Hard drives from previous computer: 160gb seagate Sata2 and a WD 80gb sata drive.

6. I have read through threads about various components but not the pc as a whole

7. I don't plan on OC. So default speeds

8. As soon as possible. So whenever my stuff gets shipped.

What I am looking at buying so far:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Dual Core Proecessor Socket AM2 2.6GHZ Retail Box $69.98

Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 AMD740G mATX AM2+/AM3 1PCI-EX 2PCI SATA2 RAID VGA Sound GLAN DVI Motherboard $73.46

EVGA E-Geforce9800GT 512MB 1.8GhZ. $145 after 15 MIR

Coolmaster Elite RC 330 ATX Blk Case $52.25

G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit $57.99

All from NCIX.com. .. so basically is this an OKAY build?
thanks in advance!

EDIT: i should also mention that i am using previous keyboard/mouse/speakers as well. generic keyboard and logitechmx510 mouse. logitech x-530 speakers

I would switch the X2 and 740g motherboard for an e5200 and a Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L, if you can manage the price. Should be faster at stock speeds and you can OC that setup pretty well and easily, if you become willing

1. I actually do up a lot of budget AMD rigs and you want to get an AM2+ mobo with a confirmed BIOS out for these newer AM2+/AM3 Deneb/Heka 45nm chips hehe

2. Checked Biostar TF720 CPU support list - X2 7750BE should be an out of box affair hehe Also have received official AM2+/AM3 Deneb/Heka BIOS

Well what about this Combo

3. N720a chipset + Nvidia 98xxx = Hybrid Power

4. Hybrid power allows a user to revert to integrated video when not gaming hence saving power as shown here

5. I have also known users who are alien to OC but the T Series has an auto OC function that easily allows a 300-600mhz bump 😛

Hope i helped ^^

You say you're not a gamer and then list arguably the toughest two games currently on the market as something you'd like to play.

Which is it? Seriously...

I'd suggest an X2 4850e + 780G motherboard, ditch the video card completely and use this computer for your basic stuff.

Then spend $200-300 and buy an XBOX 360 for gaming.

X2 7750 BE / Biostar 790gx: $187CAN (before $10US rebate)

The are some Radeon HD4830s on NewEgg-Canada for $110-$120 AR that would seem to fit in your budget. Probably give that 9800GT a good run for the money - when OC'ed the HD 4830 can sometimes leap to near HD4850 levels.

With the case/memory you spec'ed somewhere around $400CAN ...

I think by casual gamer means he doesn't dedicate so many hours a day for himself to be allowed to play games, just something he does when he has the time for it. And at the resolution he's playing at, I think the suggestions from heyheybooboo and yh125d are solid.
