Im working on a friend PC, and his COmputer boots properly 50% of the time. Is it Possible the motherboard Battery is causing these Problems.

Im working on this great (386 model i think) PackerBell computer. I can tell if the PC going to boot, Because the light on the monitor will change from Organe to green.

So the power supply is working............I don't know what elese that could be wrong........ The Power button seems okay.........Everything plugged in.

Have you tried clearing the CMOS?

Also, on older computers like this especially, look for shorts. Make sure the motherboard is not twisted or torqued in any way, as this will also cause shorts.

More detailed info would be helpful...

Packard Bell? *Grabs axe and hands it to Bradley10 and says, "Lets solve this problem once and for all".......:)

If you can't tell, I dislike them very much. But on to the problem. A quick question, during the times it doesn't boot up, does it act like it is booting just not turning on the monitor or is it just not booting?

Have you blown out the dust recently? Including out of the powersupply? Are you sure the powersupply is 100% functional? Do you have any old AT powersupplies laying around you could test the system with?

Reseat all your components.

Buy a 486 at Goodwill for $5 bucks.......:)
