PC boot problems relates to P/S?

Hoping the power of this community can help. Tried googling a bit but could not find my issue.

Starting JUST last night, my machine will not boot (heck, nothing happens actually except I get a faint HD light on the front panel) until I either switch power off and on, or, unplug and re-plug with a moment in-between doing either.

When I take either of the above actions, the LEDs on the back of my p/s/ (OCZ PowerStream 520) all blink briefly - once, and then my machine will spin up as if nothing was wrong. Also of note, if I shut down normally, it will reboot within a minute or so...but after sitting for a bit, back to the above process.

Is there something with in a p/s that is not getting reset as long as it maintains a physical connection to power - or - is this actually symptomatic of a problem elsewhere, like the mobo or...???

Does the CMOS battery serve any function that woudl be in play here - my board (MSI K8n NEO2 Plat) is going on 2.5 years.

Thanks for any advice,

Chris

Im having a pretty similar problem my computer seems to decide whether or not it wants to turn on anymore. Usually this is a symptom of dust buildup blocking electrical contacts (has been in the past for me). At this point im pretty sure its not dust though. I checked the power cords. Sprayed in the psu and on the cables/in the mobo with pressurized air. Im afraid to turn it off anymore because its random whether or not it will boot up. This is not a state im comfortable to settle with.

Your problem seems slightly different however. When yours wont boot up you claim you still get led from your hdd. Is it the activity led? Or is it just the my hard drive has power going to it led? When my comp wont boot its as if the power cord is not plugged in absolutely nothing happens no fans no lights nothing. Then randomly after maybe 1000 power on presses later it boots up. Ive even tried the power switches integrated into the mobo same problem (DFI ultra-d).

Something else worth noting I also have a OCZ Powerstream but instead i have the 470.

My symptoms also just started last night.

I can replicate the issue (by waiting long enough between boots - say, more than 15 minutes or so) and also have come to be able to "fix" it, temporarily enough - by simply unplugging the cord, waiting 5 seconds or so, and then plugging back in. OR, I can switch the p/s off, wait until I get the LED flash (referenced in my original post), and then switch back on. PC will boot.

So, by way of forcing the p/s into a definitive non-connect with any power, I must be resetting something...but 'what' is that something? That's my issue.

Perhaps the caps are not discharging correctly? have you tried another PSU yet? That would be my first bet.

Thanks for the tip...I guess that's what I'll have to do. I have an older one I can try that should still work with my setup.
