Hi all,
I have a PC, which ran perfectly couple of days ago. Yesterday, when i turned on my PC, it had the following problem:
1. After detecting all hardware (keyboard...), it went to a back blank page which a cursor.
2. I tried to boot from Floopy, but it still went to a back blank page like above.
3. I tried to boot from CD, the same situation occurred.
4. Tried to put another monitor on, didn't solve the problem.
5. Tried to clear BIOS and restart, didn't solve the problem.
After messing around (reset bios, take battery out...), it hasd an error saying: CMOS Checksum Error - default loaded. I searched this message online, i t said my motherboard batterry is probably weak. However, i checked it out with my vol-metter, it said 3 V (good enough ? ).
Now, i am desperate. Please give me advice. I appreciate you all!
Regards,
google.

You should replace the cmos battery and try again. If that fails, try removing all peripheral cards except the video card and see if you get past the POST.

After seeing the black blank page with the cursor at the top, I take it the left and blinking, how long did you wait?
I usually see this blank page and it's almost as if there's something wrong with the OS picking up after the post cause I've had problems with it before, but moving my mouse or something sometimes keeps it going so that it will bring up the Winblows splash screen and then it usually continues booting.

If it just happened from the hard drive and not a diskette or a cd, I would try a different hard drive, but since this happened those times too, I would probably unhook all of the cables, take out the ram, unseat all the cards, and go back to square one with just a video card installed, your ram, and your one hard drive that you boot from. If your cmos battery is bad then I would replace it quick cause that will prevent you from booting up into the OS. You will have to reset your bios though cause it will restart with those defaults again.

Thanks Mavrick007,howitis and teddymines :
To Howitis: you are right. CMOS is corrupted. But I didn't know how to solve it. :)
To Teddymines: How do you qualify a your battery is in good condition? (I should get one replace soon).
To Marvrick007 : I waited for 10 minutes (long enough for this kind of problem?). I probably have to take all my CPU apart. :)
Please give me some more options.

Google,
I'm not an expert either, but I had similiar problem after trying to get a bad 60GB WD Hard Drive to be recognized by BIOS. During the install, I got the aame, or quite similiar message about my CMOS. A web search (knowing my M/B) yielded that the CMOS was in fact bad. I was lucky, I simply re-flashed the CMOS (check how to do this from your M/B web site - it should also have the latest BIOS) and that cured the problem. I'm not sure what the cause was, but, so far, it has not recurred. Hope this helps.

Hi WaterSkier1,
Thanks for quick response. Just wanna ask how you flash your bios when you can't even boot from your Hard Drive or your floopy disk?
Thanks,
Google.
PS: Try another hard drive is worth trying. :)

I my case, with an Epox M/B, you invoke the BIOS Flash even before it goes to BIOS ... at the same time you see the "hit DEL to enter BIOS" or some such message. What is your M/B mfgr and model #? I'll see if I can look it up on the web for you.
