Is it a complicated project to set-up a sound system that is PC based?

Basically, I would like to use my PC as the source and feed speakers throughout the house, includinfg surround sound for movies played via the PC's DVD player.

Would a special soundcard or other hardware be needed?

Once you get it to the AMP it,s the AMP job to do the rest, computers don't have enough watts to handle large speakers above 40 watts,of course that is my opinion.I use a 20 ft extenison to run to my AMP from the computer and it works great with 10 speakers. The AMP is not a cheapo so keep that in mine when you start running the wire through the house.PS use good heavy duty speaker wire.If you do it now as hot as it is I suggest a contractor to do the wiring :).

Okay, so what kind of soundcard and amp are you using? Is the amp a standard stereo receiver or something special?
