PC automatically restarts.

Little background info here. I was doing a Windows Update on my PC, there was 5 updates total. Four of them were Windows related, I'm trying to remember what they were, something about an update to the remote desktop feature, root certificates, windows defender, and something else. The fifth update was for my wireless card.

Anyway, about half way through the download phase, or install phase, I wasn't really paying attention to it, the PC restarted on its own. Now it's stuck in a reboot cycle. I can get to the sign on screen, enter my PW, my desktop background will load, my icons will load, but after about 10-15 seconds, it restarts again.

My guess is there is a program that is conflicting with something and it doesn't like that very much.

Where is the error log stored so I can pull that up, because I'm sure that will help you guys out when trying to help me out.

Press F8 as it starts and choose last known good. If this doesnt work press F8 as it starts again and choose safe mode, from here roll back the driver or attempt a system restore.

Last good configuration does not work, tried that already. I have system restore turned off because I hated it on WinME.

Regardless, I have it narrowed down. It has something to do with my wireless PCI card. If I start in safe mode w/ networking everything works fine. For shits and giggles I went into the device manager and disabled the card. Restarted the computer, and it booted just fine, just to make sure I enabled the card, and it rebooted again. I think it has to do w/ the update, because windows update screwed up my card once before causing conflicts and a process to use 85% or more of my CPU.

I'm going to uninstall all drivers and programs for the card and report back.

Actually, just go into safe mode and roll back the driver, there is an option for it in dev manager

Doh, I knew that too. It's too late now cause I just finished removing all the software. It's ok though, because Windows likes to think my wireless card is something else and installs conflicting software. It's happened before so I should have known it would happen again.

Yep, problem solved.

I think the update to the card was conflicting with the Wireless Zero Configuration process, which I wasn't aware of that is not needed when I'm using the D-Link software.
