Ive been asked these questions, but im not quite sure about them... I have answered the other 20 questions, but im stuck on these...

1. (a) What is meant by the ?modular? design of a computer?

(B) Why is it necessary for a ?modular? design in a computer?

2. Name five components found on the motherboard of a computer.

3. (a) What is the purpose of a ?bridge??
(B) What voltage does a motherboard need to function correctly?
© What voltage is supplied at a wall socket?

4. (a) What is the function of the system clock?
(B) List two typical clock speeds.
© What is ?overclocking??

5. (a) Which component on the motherboard is largely responsible for slowing the CPU down, and Why?
(B) How is cache memory used to overcome this problem?
© Describe two types of cache memory.

6. Briefly describe the difference between the ISA (Industry Standard Architecture) slots and the PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) slots which were on the motherboard.

7. Explain the difference between SIMMs, DIMMs and RIMMs.

8. What is the function of the AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port)?

9. How does an ATX motherboard differ from an AT motherboard?

10. Explain the difference between a PS/2 port and a USB port.

Help Appreciated ;)

If those were the 10 hard questions then I hate to see how easy the other 20 were. You should really do your own studying...

Easy questions must have been something along the lines of:
What does RAM stand for?
What does ROM stand for?

Try calling a homework hotline.

They're right LD. All of this data is easy to find with a little intent. Poke around this place some to get started.

1. a) It's made of modules.
b) Makes things easier

2. chips, jumpers, traces, circuits, sockets

3. a) to get across something
b) low voltage
c) a lot

4. a) to keep system time
b) 100MHz, 133MHz
c) clocking over the default

5. a) Hard drive, because it's slow
b) it caches data
c) on motherboard, and on die, self explanatory

6. ISA is old and slow. PCI is new, and faster, but still not fast enough.

7. SIMMs - old and slow. DIMMs - new and fast, with much growth potential. RIMMs - new and fast, but faces user animosity due to Rambus' business practices.

8. AGP - it provides a graphics port, which is accelerated

9. Different layout. And it has an X at the end of it.

10. PS/2 is old and slow. USB is new, faster, and more useful.

That was fun.

Thanx Jeff7, even though some of your answeres are sarcastic... 9 But at least you took the time... Thanx ;)

Ive noticed some of that... A friend told me that some of them dont look that right... But at least he answered the questions...

If you want to know computers, you're going to need to have a perspective on these things yourself, without someone holding your hand.

All the effort you've put into this thread you could have found your answers 5 times over. You're not going to find anyone who's going to do your work for you...
edit: and a hard drive is not a component on the motherboard.

Yes, fun Jeff, but you got these wrong!

b) Because big words look good on brochures

2. cat hair, dog hair, roach poop, dust bunnys, and koolaid

3. c) more info required. Which country and what time of day? Voltage is not the same throughout the day in some locations (nor is freq.)

4. c) overclocking is also called a speed trap.

5. a) See 2.

6. ISA cards require a hammer to get into PCI slots. PCI cards just need a good push for ISA slots.

7. S, D, and R.

10. A USB device easily fits in a serial port, while force must be used to get a PS/2 device in the serial port.

LMAO!
4. (a) What is the function of the system clock?
(B) List two typical clock speeds.
© What is ?overclocking??
(a) clocks the system
(b) 24 hour and 12 hour
(c) too many clocks

8. What is the function of the AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port)?
Accelerates Ported Graphics
10. Explain the difference between a PS/2 port and a USB port.
PS2 ports can plug in controller and dance dance mats. The USB port is pretty much just for the driving wheel and socom headset.

There's no way that's from A+. This is really remedial stuff. I remember A+ being a lot more advanced than that...
edit: probably from Community College....or a Junior High class...

I would agree with the others, this is so definetly homework, but I'll answer for fun anyway :p

1. (a) What is meant by the ?modular? design of a computer?

(B) Why is it necessary for a ?modular? design in a computer?

Modular designs mean that parts can be interchanged. So that computers can be repaired by replacement.

2. Name five components found on the motherboard of a computer.

- North Bridge
- South Bridge
- CPU socket
- PCI slots
- AGP slot

3. (a) What is the purpose of a ?bridge??
(B) What voltage does a motherboard need to function correctly?
© What voltage is supplied at a wall socket?

a. To connect two or more parts of a computer,
b. Depends on the motherboard :p
C. 120 Volts\Amps\some measure of power :p

4. (a) What is the function of the system clock?
(B) List two typical clock speeds.
© What is ?overclocking??

a. To set the 'pace' of a computers communication -or- the thing that keeps time on your computer :p

b. 100, 133

c. Running a system clock at a higher than rated speed.

5. (a) Which component on the motherboard is largely responsible for slowing the CPU down, and Why?
(B) How is cache memory used to overcome this problem?
© Describe two types of cache memory.

a.uh... pass. Would say HDD, but that's not ON the motherboard. Reason is obvious :p
b. To have the information readily available when it is needed and less latency is wasted waiting for information
c. L1 - usually small, but very fast
L2 - normally larger, bdut slower
RAM - buffer between HDD or CPU, relatively fast compared to HDD, but slow to CPu cache

8. What is the function of the AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port)?

As an extension of the PCI bus, it serves to provide additional bandwidth for a graphics card without straining the 133MB\sec of the PCI bus.

9. How does an ATX motherboard differ from an AT motherboard?

ATX boards differ slihtly in physical stats as wel as the ability to turn off by themselves :p

10. Explain the difference between a PS/2 port and a USB port.

Look it up :p

A+ has a lot more interpersonal stuff in it too.
