pc 800 and 700 together?

ok...... so i still can't decide on what rams to buy.... but is it ok to mix the two together? and how can you tell which one you have originally?

thanks

PC800 and only that one, don't get the PC700, short yourself on the bandwidth.

I don't know if you can mix them, but wouldn't do it, PC700 might drag the PC800 performace down to the PC700 level.

well, i don't really mind if the performance is dropped as long as it doesn't create instability.... pc800 is cheaper and easier to find than pc700 right now, and i suspect the ones already in the computers are pc700 .....

is there any way to find out if the ones already installed are 700 or 800??

thanks

come on guys.......... i really need to know this soon............ or maybe who i call to ask about it?

Well.....I have mixed PC133 and PC100 together many a time and had no problems, but it does of course run at the speed of a slower stick in there.

I am not familiar with Rambus but I suspect that there will be no issue in mixing the two and then running both at the PC700 speed. The only time it should not work would be when mixing say EDO Simms & SDRAM or SDRAM & DDR-RAM (on boards that have both types of slots)

that's what i suspect.......... but i have to be sure since i'm buying them for my research group... i don't want to have to go through the paper work of returning stuff...

it's the computers at my research group.... they're dell optiplex gx200 .. i checked the dell website, and it says to use either pc700 or 800. but i dunno if i can mix the two together..
