I have a Dell Dimension 4600. It's got a 800mhz P4 2.4 in it. I don't want to overclock. I don't even know if I can over clock. It's got some ram in it (256) that came with it. I'd like to get some more. But I don't know what. I'd like the fastest timings, but when I looked, there were like 5 different listings (what happened to just three?). I also don't understand what a "kit" is. I'd like to get 512 total, and I think because of the FSB, it's best to get two sticks, right? So that'd be 2 sticks of 256. I'm looking at the Kingston 2.5 stuff. Is that the best bang for the buck? Is there one with a rating of 2? Price is important, but I'll pay a little more for the uberfast stuff (remember, it doesn't need to be overclocked).

Any help is appreciated.

a kit is a pair of ram sticks tested to work in pairs for dual channel

in my experiances, buffalo pc3200 w/ winbond modules runs cas 2 no problem @ 200 mhz

however, you will want to find out the cas rating of the current ram cuz even if u get cas 2, and your current ram is cas 3, both will run cas 3

Winbound memory sticks are dinosaurs now. Where can I get some? Newegg, no more.

I got suck with a unmatched stick of 256 kingston hyperx with some, but they quit producing it. and replaced bh-5 with ch-5 modules which I hear suck a$$ for oc'ing with aggresive timimings.

Where can I get some Winbound Memory? Asides Mushkin Extremely overpriced pay for a name stuff.

If you are not overclocking and have a system with limited access to bios settings, faster ram will do you no good. Stick with name brand memory for stability, get pc3200 and that is all you need to do.
