PC 100 and 133 memory on AMD Duron and Tbird systems. . .

Ok, so right now all the Tbird and Duron CPUs use 100mhz memory and DDR it to 200mhz. I was just wondering if there is any point in getting 133mhz memory. Does it make any difference? As far as I knew it only actually used 100mhz memory. The thing is that I am looking to upgrade my CPU and I only have pc-100 ram. Any info is greatly apreciated, Thanks.

One more questions. What motherboard is the best for overclocking? Right now I have an A-Bit board and I really like it. Are the A-bit boards or the Asus boards best for overclocking a Duron CPU ?

Abit KT7 seems to be the best socketA board on the market for O/C'ing. Buy PC133 since it is only a few dollars more than PC100, and gives you a better upgrade path.

Check the Motherboard forum for a lot of user feedback on the KT7. Anand also did a review of the board.

Like I said in my post. . . Right now I have 192mb of PC-100 ram I really don't want to have to shell out a whole bunhc of money to get pc-133 memory.

Don't KT133 board has the option to run memory at 133MHz and CPU's at 100MHz? Here's my Sandra memory bench using Asus A7V.

Considering that PC133 memory is only marginally more expensive than PC100, and that it results in a nice little performance boost on VIA-based motherboards capable of running the memory bus 33 MHz higher than the FSB, it is definitely worth it to use PC133 in a new system.

In your case, you might as well stick with your PC100 since the cost of entirely new RAM is not worth the small performance gain. If you really want PC133, try selling your old PC100 to some one with a Celeron system.

Ok so you can run it at 133mhz. Ok I thought it only went at 100mhz. I wasen't really sure. Right now I have a Celeron 400 OCed to 500 and an Abit bx6 r2. I was thinking of going with a duron 600, 650 or 700 and overclocking it. What would you recomend?

I have both an Abit KT7 and an Asus A7V.
I have had time to search out each boards little problems.
I have found that the KT7 is really the better of the two boards. I have been able to etch out 50 MHz more on this board above the A7V. It's more stable and so far ( fingers crossed ) have had few problems.
All TBird and Duron boards are based on chipsets that support 133MHz memory.
The option to turn on the memory is hostclk + pciclk. Or host being 100MHz and pci as 33 Mhz.
