Paypaled for something on Ebay, user no longer registered, do I have recourse?

Yeah, a second ebay thread. I bought some USB card for $20 earlier this week and when my interwebs connection went down I managed to pay him twice. I asked for a refund on the item and he said sure but he was in the middle of a dispute so he'd sort it asap. I now see that his ebay account is not registered. I have his gmail address for paypal. I've sent him another email and will dispute both of the purchase amounts today if I don't hear back but if he's gone away am I out of the money?

BTW, the recipient of the payment was a verified paypal user. When I bring up the item now in fleabay I can't even pull it up, it just says "consider it cancelled", but if the guy HAD put it in the mail, I'd still be fine with paying the one time.

Well, I just disputed both. Maybe jumping the gun, but after no communication on why he hasn't refunded that second payment yet, plus a big fvcking red alarm with him no longer registered on ebay I felt it worth getting in as soon as possible on the dispute process.

that happend to me once... i purchase some very cheap montblanc rollerball refills (@ 2.00 per).... after i paid, his auctions got pulled and account closed.

i still got my refills, i guess he was selling them too cheap and montblanc complained?

Surprisngly, he contacted me this morning and refunded one of the erroneous ones. He said original item wasn't in stock but is now and he's shipping. *shrug*. I will give benefit of the doubt and indicate both disputes are settled. He says his ebay was messed because of a "misunderstanding". Who knows, but at least I have $20 back
