PayPal sued

PayPal sued by its customers
A San Francisco-based law firm filed a federal class-action lawsuit this week against PayPal on behalf of the service's customers.
The suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, charges PayPal violated the Electronic Funds Transfer Act and unlawfully restricted customers' access to their accounts. Girard, Gibbs & De Bartolomeo, which represents the PayPal customers, is asking for actual damages and restitution, but has not asked for a specific amount.

Last month, a separate class-action suit was filed against PayPal in California Superior Court in Santa Clara County. Similar to this week's suit, that case charged PayPal illegitimately froze customers' accounts. PayPal was also hit with a patent-infringement suit last month that forced it to delay its initial public offering.

All three suits are "without merit," PayPal executives said. --Troy Wolverton, Special to ZDNet News

It was only a matter of time.

Yep. With all the complaints I see from people on ATOT, I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner

Yay, yay, yay, yay!! Hehehe! I'm kidding around. I've enjoyed paypal so far without any problems. I better rush and withdraw my buck before it's too late. :p :) Actually, I'm off to do it right now. :)

<sigh>
I've never had a problem with paypal. I guess it's because I follow the rules. It's not too difficult people.
The only thing thats going to be accomplished with these court cases is the elimination of GOOD internet services. Who REALLY wants paypal to go away? Anyone from FS/FT? I didn't think so. Why are people enjoying this? Paypal is one of the good guys!

What some people here don't realize is that if paypal goes under, ebay sellers will face their worst nightmare: complete monopoly of the online auction system by ebay. Ebay's billpoint will be the only viable online payment system around. Ebay will waste no time to miss the opportunity to capture potential transactions, which will be very easy for them due to the integration of the two systems. You think paypal is bad? Billpoint is the most incompetent system I've ever come across, both at the technical and customer service level. For instance, there was a major bug that allowed for a huge amount of fraudulent transactions to take place a few months ago; the ones who will eat the cost are the sellers. Unlike paypal, billpoint provides zero protection for the seller. You can have a tracking number, full signature, whatever you want, billpoint will still reverse the charge on you if there is a dispute.

While I have not yet had problems with Paypal, I dislike having to call merchants before I order anything to make sure it's in stock because I want to avoid Paypal putting a hold on my money for 30 days even when an order has been cancelled and a refund credit issued to me by the merchant.The practice alone would be barely tolerable without the fee's they charge, in combination with their fee structure it's not.

Russ has long denounced this dot.com for having a very poor business plan ,something I can't disagree with in looking over their numbers,and I doubt this news will be of much surprise to him.

I wish I didn't hate class action lawyers so much; it's cutting in to my joy at seeing this dot.bomb getting popped.

You're probably right. I think the most important thing for them right now is to persue the FDIC insurance that they have available. With that they MAY have a chance.
