PayPal Question

So I just sold something on ebay for the first time in a couple years. I received notification that the item was paid, but that the funds won't be available until around December 28th...I realize that I can apparently make it available sooner by printing my shipping label from ebay, but this still seems ridiculous. Is there a possibility that I can get screwed by sending my item and having my money stuck in Paypal limbo??

Sounds like the buyer may have paid by an echeck.

I've sold a lot on eBay and I've had a few eChecks as payment. Usually they were 10-14 days at worst for the funds to clear.

Twenty days seems like a long time. Why don't you give paypal a call. You do get to talk with a real person.

I have never had an issue, I am not a big seller, so most of the time I have to wait also. Give them a call, they have helped speed things up for me also.

I heard of people getting screwed yeah. Somehow the buyer can take the money back. I don't really know how it works though. I must be lucky with Paypal since I never have issues like that. There is a delay but nothing ridiculous.

Don't send the item until PayPal says it is ok to ship. Found that out the hard way.

If it was indeed an echeck for payment, that's exactly what paypal will tell you.

They will send an email saying the funds have cleared and its OK to ship the item.

This happened to me when I started selling again. The money should clear faster if you put in the tracking number and carrier so they can see when it will be delivered.

There isn't really a greater chance of getting screwed than there is with any other Paypal transaction.

The email I received from Paypal says "You received a payment from your buyer - Ship now," and the transaction status in Paypal says "Completed - Funds not yet available." Think I'm ok to ship?

OK, so it's not an eCheck. Not sure why they will make you wait 20 days to get paid.

When was the last time you sold something?

You're ok to ship. Make sure you ad the tracking number after you've shipped. It will probably be more like < 10 days before the money is available.

It's a heavy handed solution to what I would bet is a fairly rare problem. The same thing happened to me when I started selling again a year ago.

I found something that may help.

Hey guys,

As part of our payment holds for new eBay sellers, we'll hold the money from your eBay transactions for up to 21 days. The funds for payments received are held temporarily as a pending balance in your account. New sellers on eBay are sellers who received payment for their first eBay sale less than 90 days ago.

Your funds will be released within 24 hours from when one of the following occurs:

• The buyer leaves you positive feedback
• 21 days pass without a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal being filed on the transaction
• You provide a tracking number which shows that the item has been delivered over 3 days ago
----------------------------------------------------------

If you ship it and it gets delivered it looks like they will release the funds in 3 days.

I am guessing this is for new(er) accounts.

That explains a lot. I have been a seller for over 15 years, but I haven't sold anything in a year.

I am guessing this would happen to me.

Yes it would... My wife just started (few weeks ago) selling on ebay again and this is what happened to her as well... She did get stung by a buyer with an e-check but was only $10 but still it is the principle... But yes they do hold the funds for up to 21 days which is BS to us but there are reasons no doubt...

But if it is an instant transfer you of course will know but with an e-check I would hold off shipping till it clears and my wife has added a little statement in her listings to let buyers know that if they are paying with an e-check then the item will not ship till the funds clear...
