Paypal Promotion: 20% off at select vendors (Newegg, Toys R Us, eToys, Ritz, etc.)

What a drag - I saw this first thing today and was primed to snap up either the XFX 8800GT or the eVGA 8800GT Superclocked @ Dell and/or the XBox 360 HD-DVD player @ Newegg, just to turn 'em around and make a quick buck on fleabay. Waited to speak to the wife so she wouldn't be surprised @ charges on the credit card, and wouldn't ya know it - both deals died, the Dell one right in front of my face while I was browsing the site just now!

Newegg seems to be timing out randomly, but I'm still able to get a Newegg page to load when I need it.

But to address a previous post -- no, I haven't heard of a 1/2 day promotion before.

Sounds like someone dropped the ball!

Man this blows. I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I got my order in early in the morning and it even shipped out today. I remember seeing PAYPAL promo 20% somewhere in the order confirmation page, but I dont seem to see it on my invoice emailed to me. Does anyone know where I can get proof of this? I ended up getting a CM Stacker 830 case for about 100 bucks AR & PP promo. Pretty decent deal considering they go for about 200+ dollars. I think Ill email Paypal to confirm I got the 20% deal.

I placed one order and it was for things that I wouldn't have had the 20% not been in the price equation.

That was my situation...I even made a special trip to town today to deposit money in my account so my papal account could be funded...If this doesnt go through it will probably be the end of the road for Egg and paypal for me.......

little self-respect? rolling over and taking it after being lied to? wow, you are off your rocker man. this promo, like just about every other one out there, stated that it can be pulled at any time if needed. it's not like you are ENTITLED to getting the discount; a promo deal is something you should be thankful for. would it make any difference if the promo was not offered AT ALL? no, so how the hell can you bitch and whine that they only had the deal up for a little while...why not be happy that it was up at all(assuming they honor those sales already made)? not our fault that you waited too long to order...

It isn't like they tricked anyone into thinking they were getting a discount...some people are really insane...

That's unlikely to be a problem. Whether or not Newegg pulled out of the promotion after you made your purchase doesn't matter because PayPal was solely responsible for paying the discount in the first place.

I believe the problem with the yanked PayPal promotions was caused by PayPal itself. I tried to place an order with Toys-R-Us this afternoon and got an error whenever I tried logging into PayPal. I called PayPal and after being put on hold for several minutes the service rep told me that a technical glitch was blocking transactions between Toys-R-Us and PayPal. I asked if it only effected Toys-R-Us and she told me that she was unsure because they were starting to receive calls from other PayPal users reporting similar problems. Shortly afterwards, Newegg and eToys discontinued their participation in the discount program. If I were a retailer and my customers were unable to complete transactions through the PayPal discount channel, I'd stop participating in the promotion, too.

FWIW, I kept trying to put through my Toys-R-Us order and it finally went through about a half-hour ago.

I think people are (understandably) upset because they get excited at the great deal only to have it pulled before they can place their order.

IMO, this was also not the greatest execution of a promotion. I think it would've been better if they'd just said "valid for the first 1000 orders", rather than this nebulous "we reserve the right to end the promotion early" and then not have any notification when the promotion was over.

I'm pissed because I put in an order last night with newegg, but that order was never processed until this afternoon. Now I have no idea if I'll be getting my cashback because although my order went through way before the cutoff, it wasn't processed by paypal until after the cutoff at 4pm. I only placed this order because of the cashback. What am I suppose to do if I'm denied the rebate? There's no way I can argue that I placed the order in time because paypal will see the transaction time as 4pm. So I may be SOL.
