Paypal is holding my funds AGAIN!

So, I just got this.

We're holding the funds for 1 payment that you've received for items sold on eBay. The total amount on hold in your account is: $101.65 USD PayPal and eBay are working together to make payments for eBay items even safer. Because we want both buyers and sellers to feel confident about sending and receiving payments through PayPal, we may temporarily hold payments for items sold on eBay. Make sure to ship the item right away, so you'll have access to the funds sooner. We'll release the hold in 21 days unless you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction subject to the hold. We may release the hold earlier if either of the following occurs: * The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay. * We confirm that the item was delivered.* We can confirm delivery if you ship the item with USPS, FedEx, or UPS and either use PayPal shipping labels or upload tracking information from the transaction details page. This applies to transactions within the United States. Why do they even bother with this? What if I needed the money to ship it? Or if I needed it sooner? God damn. Second time this happened and I have to say it's pretty damn annoying.

So why do they hold funds? I haven't had it happen to me yet (*knocks on wood*), but I don't sell on eBay very often, maybe just once every month or two. But when I do sell it's usually items that are a few hundred dollars.
 
My guess is that it makes dispute resolution easier. If they don't release the funds, they can just reverse to the buyer without having to try and force it from the seller.

Several years ago I bought a model part on ebay. It never arrived. I had to file a claim. Despite finding in my favor, the seller didn't have enough funds for paypal to give me the $$ back, so I still got screwed out of it.

Several things come to mind..you DON`T have to sell on ebay or even use paypal....
#2--- I like that policy. I am a power seller on ebay and I feel it keeps the dishonest sellers from ripping people off and it keep the dishonest buyers from stealing your product....

I hardly dount that is the case.......also if they pay you in some other manner than with paypal.....then whats been said doesn`t apply!!
 
I find it irritating when I am a seller. I find it comforting when I am a buyer. Somewhere in-between I found tolerance.

They will release the funds as soon as you receive positive feedback or three days after confirmed delivery using a Paypal generated shipping label. That really isn't that bad.
 
Probably good incentive for sellers to get items shipped out quickly as well. I got burned for $400 on a laptop quite a few years back (similar to JEDIYoda's situation, I won the complaint, but the seller and my money were long gone by then), so even though it's a hassle for sellers, I think the protection it provides for buyers is worth it.

I just don't understand how they determine when and when not to hold funds. Anybody have any insight on this?

JEDIYoda: Honestly hasn't happened to me, but like I said I don't sell very often. Just this week sold a Mini 9 on eBay for about $220, though, and funds were not put on hold. Few hours after the auction was over I printed off a USPS shipping label and initiated an EFT to my checking account. I've also had my PayPal and eBay accounts forever, since 2001. Maybe that makes a difference.
 
I think it's reasonable. If I was selling, I'd just make sure to ship the item asap with a tracking number. Then I get the money right there and then when I input the tracking number. This is good for the buyer too because I get notice when the item is shipped, but the seller can also ship a box filled with peanuts to me.. 🙁
 
I am experiencing the same thing. I shipped my item out and the buyer already received it yet they are still holding my payment. I hope to hear from the buyer soon.
 
I actually think that they need to make Paypal a permanent part of Ebays website: That will help a lot and make things run more smoothly..

I also think that its should be up to Ebay to sift through the claims than paypal. Paypal is just a service that help people get money from point A to point B..

If something was bought outside of Ebay as like buying from someone on AT or other forums - Mebbe Paypal should handle those.. But let Ebay handle they're own claims...

Actually I think that If you sell on Ebay that money will not get credited into your account until the buyer has inspected the item. Once the buyer has inspected the item he or she shall leave pos or neg feedback within 4 days.

If the buyer does not leave feedback of any type withing 4 days money will go into the sellers account

But if you need money to ship with that paypal credit your account with enough funds for shipping said item.

Now paypal can supposedly hold money for up to 30 days.. if there is a claim filed: I think that should be cut in 1/2 - 30 days is to much and I just wonder how much interest paypal makes on money that has claims.

I am unsure how to really read the way paypal does business But I know it does work.. But some of the timeframes during claims is just a might to high to me..

 
Use real tracking and you'll have your money the same day it is delivered. I didn't know about this either on a recent ebay sale. I guess if you have an assload of references they don't do this.

Same here.

That is why from now on, I am going to hold any shipment until the 21 days are up or the money is posted. As far as I am concerned, I should not have to ship a damn thing until the money that rightfully belongs to me is usable to me.

Might also start marking everything up 5000% or so for paypal users, anyone who wants to pay with a check, money order, or discrete paypal will get it for regular price.

You have any idea how easy it is to fake those items compared to simply waiting a few days?

Fleabay will pull your auctions if you charge a "paypal surcharge". I guess you could do it like gas stations do "Cash Discount", rather than "credit card surcharge".

The only problem with that is many people will refuse to buy from you since it can take 3-4 days for them to even get it and then another 7-10 business days for a check to clear at times.
 
I have found most of the people that have problems with ebay/paypal are simply stupid. These types have problems with much more in life as well.

I have been using both for years and years and not much more than a hiccup usually caused by some asshat on the other end of the transaction.

I am surprised though by the numbers that have had accounts for several years and know nothing of the tools available to them.
