Paypal eCheck purchase on Ebay

I recently sold a DFI NF3 board on Ebay to someone with zero feedback (but he's been a member of Ebay since 2002). I've never been paid via eCheck before (that's the first sign).

The fact that he has zero feedback in 4 years raises a red flag. Finally, after waiting a few days for payment, today he sends a eCheck in the correct amount, and the estimated clear date is 12/15/2006. His shipping address is unconfirmed.

After doing some searching on eCheck scams, I found this information

I'm been out of the eBay loop for a while. What should I do to protect myself?

[Edit] Obviously, I'll wait until I receive official notice from Paypal that the check has cleared. Anything else I should be aware of?

OK, now I'm confused.

The first email notice I got shows payment via eCheck and it shows as being uncleared with an unconfirmed address.

Got a second email notice a few minutes later with an instant payment for the same amount. The same buyer now shows as being verified with a confirmed address. The status shows as being Completed and the full amount now shows up in my account balance.

yea, stop going off bloody emails. Log into paypal and check it out.

Since we're here, change your paypal password once you have logged in (by going to www.www.pay_pal.com and not by clicking on an email link).

If there is any problem, paypal will hit your account for the disputed amount. You have no protection from paypal with paypal, one of the reasons I say the only safe paypal account is a closed paypal account.

I know enough not to base information off emails. Logging into Paypal I see this.

What does ebay give you as far as information for the buyer? Check it out with both. Make sure the uncleared isnt trying to get you to send something to a different address.

The addresses for both Paypal listings are the same, except one is unconfirmed (eCheck) and the other is confirmed (instant payment).

Ebay still shows payment as pending.

Call the buyer and ask what is going on.

tell him to confirm his address. it's easy now with credit cards.
