Always include insurance in the shipping charge. You are responsible for the item until it is safely in their hands. That is the way it was until the last couple years sellers, including the FS/FT here, started to put it on the buyer to cover the insurance. Sorry to say but you srewed yourself on this one.

QFT. Also, bidders with zero feedback dont get to bid on my high dollar items. Sorry. 🙁

So, you sold something to a buyer that has zero feedback, with an account that was created less than a couple of days before purchase and has zero feedback? GJ.

I thought buyers can't get feedback anymore.

Can't receive negative feedback you mean? If so, you're correct. Not sure why eBay would even think about putting a system such as that. Sellers make their revenue.

As an off topic somewhat, anyone ever had problems with Google Checkout?

Hey, depending on how you sent it, isn't it automatically covered for up to $100 anyway? Couldn't you file a claim with USPS? Of course, you'd need it in writing from this buyer that the package had been damaged in transit.

Of course, if you suspect she's making it up, it might be too late to play that card.

USPS does not offer any automatic insurance.

Edit:
If you sent it via USPS, and the buyer is claiming fraudulent damage, maybe talk to the postmaster about possible mail fraud?

if you think insurance is the answer to anything you have never had to try and collect on it before. usps screwed me out of 300.00 because they are crooked, and just like credit card companies that put you thru hell to try and get your money, only to call back a week later and find out there is no record of you or any claim.

they make me want to show up with a pack of angry pit bulls to set loose on their asses.

Don't you usually get some sort of paper payment showing you had insurance?

Insurance isn't for the buyer, it's for the seller.

negatory, it's for the buyer, and the buyer collects claims from shipping if anything happens. it's even standard on ebay for insurance to be an optional choice for the buyer.

paypal is fucked up on this one

Insurance is for the seller.......sorry but negator...your wrong!!

+1

Also, OP didn't read PayPal's USA Seller Protection Policy:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/policy_buyer_complaint-outside#spp-policy">https://www.paypal.com/us/c......outside#spp-policy</a>
1.8 What are examples of items/transactions that are not eligible for seller protection? * Claims or Chargebacks for Significantly Not as Described.

That said, try these emails and numbers:
http://consumerist.com/tag/hol...rs-you-could-ever-want

Ship with FedEx and get insurance for $100+ items. FedEx lost a package of mine once. All I had to do was send in copies of receipts for what was in it, and I was reimbursed the value of the items and what I paid to ship the package. FedEx will reimburse you the value of the contents you provide receipts for, or the declared value, whichever is less. So make sure that your declare the value of all the contents accurately.

I lost $350 on paypal.

Cliff notes version of what happened:
- I sold an item.
- Buyer receives item and posts positive feedback on eBay
- A few weeks later, buyer files Paypal dispute saying he never got the item
- I show Paypal my UPS tracking (which Paypal claims is proof enough)
- Guy comes back saying I shipped him a box full of magazines instead of the item
- Paypal tries to remove $350 from my Paypal, which is empty
- Paypal is tied to checking (only had $140). They tried three times to remove money from my checking. 3 NSF fees

I never used eBay since. I've used Paypal a few times on the FS/FT forums, but I still feel uneasy about it.

I wish my old harddrive didn't crash and I still had the email from paypal; but one time after getting screwed when buying something paypal did jack to help me because the buyer had a receipt for shipping "the item" . Sarcastically I asked if that meant he only shipped a roll of toilet paper but had a receipt for shipping the TP roll would still be good enough proof even though I didn't buy a TP roll, and the idiot paypal guy responded yes.

paypal and Ebay recently changed how they deal with it. no i refuse to use ebay and really thinking of letting paypal go.

now it is rather easy for a buyer to screw over a seller.

I just started adding insurance, no options to decline...

Just a question... how would have that helped? The unscrupulous buyer could still bypass the USPS and go straight to paypal. Unless they initiate something on their end you have no case. If its an honest person doing what you said makes sense.... but how does it work with scammers?

Maybe it's time to get off the phone and write them a letter. I doubt Paypal would say those things to you in writing.
