Paypal blows my mind sometimes

So I was selling a cell phone and had a bidding war with 3 people all 100+ feedback so I was very happy. Then at the last second a 0 feedback new ebay user bids and wins. I knew right off the bat it was gonna be a scammer.

So a few minutes later I get a payment with $50 extra lol and a note saying please ship this to my brother in the Philippines express mail. Grrrrr, so I call paypal to explain to them that I am not shipping this to the USA paypal address or out of the country and they should contact the owner of this paypal account because their account has been stolen. The lady tells me well you got the payment you should send it to the confirmed address. I was like are you serious I am telling you this is a scam and you are still wanting me to ship out a $200 phone knowing this is a scam and I will have to get all this shipped back to me from the poor girl who had there account stolen.

PS I emailed the person and told them due to scammers I do not ship outside the US and guess what no response shocker lol


 
Big bold letters in the shipping section "Will not ship outside of USA". So far I have never gotten a scam purchase.
 
Should have added in your Listing that you don't ship outside of the US and also that bidders need to have a positive > 0 feedback. That would have prevented the scammer from even bidding.
 
To be honest I have no idea why you're so confused.

Paypal gets plausible deniability so when the owner of the compromised account contacts Paypal it gives them an excuse to remove the funds from your account and then to hold them while they "investigate" the fraud. After a month (or 2-3, in my experiences long ago when I was still stupid enough to use PayPal as opposed to Google Checkout) of "investigating" the issue they can and probably will simply determine they were unable to come to a proper mediation of the issue and retain the funds themselves. You both lose, PayPal wins.

Even in the off chance they decide to give the money back (doubtful) you gave them an interest free loan for the duration. Jesus I should have thought of that business model years ago, they're making a killing skimming off compromised accounts and every new TOS modification for years has been giving them more and more control over who gets to decide what to do with the funds (see: them).

I think you can, but i do not sell at eBay anymore. Only local/Craigslist
 
So I just spoke with a guy who had asked me questions before the auction ended. I called him and he was super nice guy, ended up relisting it just for him and resold it for only $10 less than before and to a legit person thank god.

I wish all my transactions with people were this good, probably one of the nicest people I have ever encountered on ebay. He even told me to save money on shipping to flatten the cell phone box so I could fit it into a USPS flat rate packaging.

So I emailed the victim...I found them on facebook and let them know their account was hacked since Paypal were being morons. Here is her repsonse, she even called me thanking me

Yea i do an they did... Idk how they got my acct or my debt card but plz dont accept it or ship anything... I called paypal an my bank an cancelled everything.. How did u find me? Was all my info on there... Im soo bullshit.. Thank u so much for messaging me i was freekin out!


And her wallpost just now
