Sounds good to me.
Actually, I'd get them a card and put a note in it that the gift was turned in as the price of the ticket.

Unless Jill was giving out blowjobs as part of the cover price, I'd pass.

I got an invite to my friend's Jack & Jill party and "tickets are on sale for $20". that seems extremely weird. do you think they'll charge me to attend the wedding?
ummm, a Jack and Jill is a wedding shower. it just includes the guys versus being an all girls shower.Originally posted by: meltdown75

Wow, you sound a little peeved about it.
What does the $20 include? All your drinks and food or just entry?
A Jack & Jill party is *NOT* a wedding shower, folks. Also known as a "stag & doe", these parties are held simply to celebrate the upcoming wedding and most times will bring a greater crowd (perhaps friends that aren't close enough to be invited to the wedding but are nonetheless friends and wish to pay their respects etc. in some way). The financial side of it is sort of beside the point, but of course the couple is intending to use the funds raised to help their cause.
My wife and I had a stag & doe. It was a massive party - we sold over 70 cases of beer and RAN OUT of liquor. If we wouldn't have had it, a lot of old friends wouldn't have had the chance to stop in and congratulate us and catch up a bit on old times. It's a celebration for the community at large, and your own circle of friends and people you may not see as much as you'd like to. Of course, not everyone is as popular as my wife & I so not everyone needs to have these big bashes.
We charged $5 for tickets in advance and $7 at the door. Drink tickets were 7 for $20. We had blackjack, a putting game, a hockey shooting game, a roulette wheel, and the hammer and nail game. We had raffles and a silent auction, and gave away an XBox, a PS2, a DVD player and some golf clubs to name a few of the prizes.
Don't be such a party pooper Yossarian!!
ps: I have heard of people charging more for their tickets! (usually it's "all you can drink")...

it's the same premise... there are games, you bring gifts for the couple, there is food/drink.
did your guests bring you gifts to your "stag & doe" party?

I would either tll them to piss off, or tell them the $20.00 is their wedding present and shower present combined.

Every single stag and doe party I have ever been invited to has sold entrance tickets, usually <$10. They're designed to raise money for the couple. You'd have to be a tight bastard to moan about buying a ticket.

Or a couples shower.
