"Gift? I thought the entrance fee would cover the gift"

Sounds good to me.

Actually, I'd get them a card and put a note in it that the gift was turned in as the price of the ticket.

I wouldn't have friends that would charge for it? I'm not really a person to shy away from burning bridges, either. :p

It's just like a Stag & Doe, but I've heard of it happening before, just a means for the bridge/groom to raise money for the wedding and what not, but then again, the things I've heard is that there were raffles, 50/50 draws, etc.. that the money was used for and whatnot.

Paying to attend a wedding shower is downright rude imo. Most people pay out their ass to get the bride and the groom wedding and shower gifts, it is extremely tacky that some couples feel the need to keep pushing for cash.

Wow, you sound a little peeved about it.

What does the $20 include? All your drinks and food or just entry?

A Jack & Jill party is *NOT* a wedding shower, folks. Also known as a "stag & doe", these parties are held simply to celebrate the upcoming wedding and most times will bring a greater crowd (perhaps friends that aren't close enough to be invited to the wedding but are nonetheless friends and wish to pay their respects etc. in some way). The financial side of it is sort of beside the point, but of course the couple is intending to use the funds raised to help their cause.

My wife and I had a stag & doe. It was a massive party - we sold over 70 cases of beer and RAN OUT of liquor. If we wouldn't have had it, a lot of old friends wouldn't have had the chance to stop in and congratulate us and catch up a bit on old times. It's a celebration for the community at large, and your own circle of friends and people you may not see as much as you'd like to. Of course, not everyone is as popular as my wife & I so not everyone needs to have these big bashes :p.

We charged $5 for tickets in advance and $7 at the door. Drink tickets were 7 for $20. We had blackjack, a putting game, a hockey shooting game, a roulette wheel, and the hammer and nail game. We had raffles and a silent auction, and gave away an XBox, a PS2, a DVD player and some golf clubs to name a few of the prizes.

Don't be such a party pooper Yossarian!! :p

ps: I have heard of people charging more for their tickets! (usually it's "all you can drink")...

ummm, a Jack and Jill is a wedding shower. it just includes the guys versus being an all girls shower.
it's the same premise... there are games, you bring gifts for the couple, there is food/drink.

did your guests bring you gifts to your "stag & doe" party?

different countries, different meanings for the term i guess. no one brought gifts to our stag & doe. that's laughable.

& to clarify - we had a wicked kickass wild BASH for our stag & doe. your version sounds like the women are all wearing nice dresses, the men are in nice khaki shorts and everyone is drinking lemonade.

my wife had a seperate wedding shower for that crap. i had to make an entrance carrying some roses towards the end, and all the females let out a *sigghhh* - some even cried. then i went to the back and ate a bunch of fried chicken.

Every single stag and doe party I have ever been invited to has sold entrance tickets, usually <$10. They're designed to raise money for the couple. You'd have to be a tight bastard to moan about buying a ticket.

I would either tll them to piss off, or tell them the $20.00 is their wedding present and shower present combined.

Is it really paying for sex? You are giving the money to the couple who's hosting the party...not the girl you are having the sexual relations with in this game.

Sounds real interesting though. Please provide pics if you go.

They are designed to raise money for the couple? That's reason enough not to go. If someone tried that in Pittsburgh, they'd be sitting in an empty hall. People are eager to give shower gifts to a couple getting married, will bake hundreds of cookies for their reception, will line up free DJs, and give nice cash wedding gifts, but you don't try to get it by extortion. That would never fly. That's not what friends do around here, anyway.

To me it sounds like, "I'm getting married, so gimme some money."

from the urbandictionary link. LMAO at "organism"

***May be NSFW***

The lick off.
Here the bottle is spun by the men and point at the women. One man spins the bottle, then it is passed to the next man to spin. If it turns out pointing to a man, the man response. Whenever the women is finally undressed, he undresses. Then he man jacks off on her bottom, getting his cum all over her bottom. Then he licks it all off.
Men are required to us condoms for any penetration act.
Before hand she has made a list of the items she is willing to do if the man fails to get her an organism and what she is willing to do if she does get an organism. The man also makes a list of what he is willing to do. After he has eaten all his cum, she states what happened to her and they match lists. They do whatever is on both lists. Usually, the women jack him off if they do not get an organism and do more if they did get the jack pot. When they are through, they move out of the circle and the spin the bottle continues.

if it's a wedding shower that's really weird, never heard of charging to attend. however if it's a sex party then probably normal to charge a cover.

"Jack and Gill"?

"Stag & Doe"?

It's a co-joined Stag-do and a Hen Party. I'm going to one next weekend and a different one the weekend following.

$20 sounds reasonable

The last wedding I went to I didn't have to buy a gift, on the condition that I would make a speach.
