if you are behind some person digging through their pockets or their purse to find the exact change, doesnt that piss you off?! i get so mad at that, and i used to be a cashier. it really doesnt save all the much time if any at all. BUT! do you do it yourself? i find that i still search for exact change if i have the time, but if i am making people behind me wait, i dont do it.

no, b/c i abhor change. In face I've made it my goal to never carry or have to use any change ever for the rest of my life. (thus I use CC everywhere, and on the rare ccasion i don't I just donate the change somewhere, if that doesn't work then it goes into the jar on my desk and then into the coinstar.)

If I have exact change, I'll use it. If something comes out to say XX.37, I'll look for 2 pennies. If I have enough of the right type of change, I'll give enough to get a quarter back (i.e. YY.62). I hate breaking a bill and ending up with pennies dimes and nickels.

i was at the store a few weeks ago and the woman decided to pay with all of her groceries in change. she spent like 20 minutes counting up the change and then after she left, the cashier had to sort the nickels, dimes, pennies, and quarters into their respective compartments in the cash register. that totally sucked.

oh, i dont bother with that. either i have the exact change or i dont. im not going to give like a quarter if it is $20.20. i will give him/her either a 20 and the exact change or i will give him a 20 and a 1

i have done that more than once back in the days of being a cashier...god it sucks for those behind them and the cashier when you have to count over $2 in change

That makes me wonder, if you bring a large amount of random change to the bank, can they sort it out for you and just put it on your account? I hate change, and I hate paying with lots of change, so I tend to end up with lots of change in my wallet, which I then dump in my house, building up cans and jars and boxes full of change.

After about 5-7 coins in my pocket.....that's it. I'm paying with change regardless of who it annoys. What's the difference timewise if I count it out or the cashier counts it out? If a person is not prepared to pay in a prompt manner and has to root around for cash, there's going to be a hold up anyway.

If it bothers you when someone else makes you wait, then I think it is the right thing that you are conscientious of doing the same to others. It only bothers me in rare and extraordinary circumstances (like the old lady paying for all her groceries in change), so I don't feel bad about digging out exact change if I'm confident that I have it.

It's a really subjective thing, though. If I can't find the correct change right away, I abort my search and pay with straight cash. How long is too long? Not long, IMHO. I'll only dig for it if I KNOW i have it, and especially if the bill is something like $20.16 because I certainly DON'T want to end up getting a bunch of change back that'll just end up rattling around in my pockets.

Maybe she didnt decide. maybe its all she had.

I was inline behind a guy whith 2 kids, he tried to buy a pound of hamburger with pennies and the checker said no. I offered to pay and the guy just stormed out looking embarassed. I wanted to beat the crap out of the checker.

Yup, get it out of my pocket. I always make sure I have <$1 in change. If it gets higher, I screwed up.

the only true place i keep change is:

A) in a cup at home that i take to one of those cash things where you dump it all in and it sorts it and tells you how much it was and then gives you the amount in bills back

B) it is in my car change thingy

I have a tolerance level for that of about 30 seconds. If after 30 seconds and they are still standing their putzing around their pockets/purse, I'd lose it.

BTW, the only time I pay with cash is at a drive-thru for food. Grocery stores, etc. I pay with a CC.

i just paid the pennies to make it up so that the change would be a multiple of 0.05

I swipe most places that aren't mom and pop shops... outside of that, if I can get exact change in under 8 seconds, I do.

They should install built in change machines like Coinstar or whatnot so the cashier can just throw it all in there...hahah
