paying someone to derust your frame?

Does this sound ridiculous? I have a rusty frame on a 02' silverado. I want to keep the truck for a long time, but I could see body rust being an issue over the next several years.

I don't really have the time or place anymore to resolve the issue on my own. Would it be silly to think a body shop could do this for me?

It completely stop it you would need to pull the frame off completely and then treat and prevent rust on the entire thing, if it's completely boxed then that would require treating the inner portion. That being said it probably won't even help. You are better off just letting it go at this point. If you really want to save the truck then replace the frame when the time comes.

The rust is just unsightly, your frame will far outlast the rest of your truck.
That said, you just need to pressure wash it, then either just paint it or spray it with undercoating(more expensive). Really no need to "de-rust" the frame.
I have an '01 Silverado, I typically wash & repaint (Rust-Oleum) every couple of years.
(Of course, I have a Pressure Washer, Compressor, & Spray Gun!)

If you can find a reputable shop, have your frame undercoated, you won't regret it, and if they do it right, you will get a lot of protection on your brake lines, fuel lines, wiring, etc. & it will last for years.

Aren't most truck frames galvanized and/or rust coated these days anyway? I agree with iamwiz, if you start messing with it you're liable just to make it worse.

ive never seen an undercoat that is worth it. even if you do it to a brand new truck and have the rubberized stuff sprayed on, it might help a little but now you have a truck thats twice as hard to work on underneath- and it will still rust.

my truck had an undercoat and the guy said "it will never rust". yeah. until the rust grows underneath the undercoat and the undercoat just flakes off in big chunks.

i wouldnt worry about it. the frame will stay strong for decades despite the surface rust. the metal they use to day is better then it was 40 years ago. much slower rust take up.
