I also think it is imporetant to relieze that whle many people think that We poay too little lets look at the facts.

1. Single enlisted do not need pay for food or shelter. (it is provided) unless you opt-out.
2. The retirement is second to none as far as benifits and pay. (show me somewhere else that after 20 you get 50% of you pays as well as FULL medical for you family until you die)

Let's say you were a DECENT enlisted and you went to 20 years and made e-6. You would receive ~1500 a month as well as medical coverage for you and dependants.

and after you retire the military will move you where ever you would like to start this reitred life.

Show me somewhere else you can get that

You don't get full medical coverage for free unless you live where there is a base with medical facilities and they treat retirees there. So you have to be careful about the moving anywhere you want when you retire. The rest of the reitirement deal is very good.

36K a month for an Anesthesiologist? Damn, I may have to apply for that one, that's as much as the Neurosurgeon.

LOL
36K annual incentive pay. Not bad but, not 36K monthly!

Wow...pay has gone up about $400-$500 per month since I was in (92-93ish).

So has inflation

Yeah I know. It used to be a great laugh though, being able to tell people that the kids that are defending the nation and in contact with our wmd's were 19yr olds with no college, 50th percentile scores on a 6th grade level test, a year of training, and were making $600 a month. Sleep tight.

Of course, with all the drops in requirements now I can just say they're 19yr olds with no college, 20th percentiles scores on a 6th grade level tests, six months of training, and are making $1100 a month.

Hahaha, I just looked at what I'd be making if I'd stayed in and I make about $2K more per month now. Plus I don't have to go out to sea.

Those guys just don't make enough money for the jobs they do.

You get an incredible amount of vacation (~30 days I think) plus you get housing allowances.
I get 4 weeks off a year plus holidays and 2 personal days now. And I did figure my pay to include housing/nuke/fsa all the extra bells and whistles. An E8 Nuke ET at 17 years gets paid almost $2K a month less than I do now AND they have to go to sea for exorbitant amounts of time. They (and all enlisted guys) get paid far too little for their responsibilites IMHO.

A nuke also gets HELLACIOUS Bonus's for staying in... and you gotta remember.. EVERYTHING is taken care of in the military housing.. food medical dental.. so that money is usually all savings and play money for single enlisteds..

I loved it.. I felt richer than I do now on the outside world making alot less..
and being on the boat is not a bad deal at all.. free travel and instant savings plan...

not to mention free college courses while afloat..

Until youve done it dont knock

From what I understand, the "insurance" company the military uses is something like Tri-care. But tri-care doesn't pay jack for the services that civilian docs use....so many civilan family docs/general practioners won't accept tri-care....and many times, the ones that do are crappy docs. Specialists typically accept tri-care though. (atleast this is what my gf told me, who was married to a seargent in the army for several years)

I've never had any problem finding a physician that takes Tri-Care. I don't think it is any worse than any other insurance company. Docs don't accept every company, so you won't ever find a company that will allow you to see just any doctor. Regardless though, you will be able to find one easily.

Also, Tri-Care is who you use only if you can't see a physician on base/post.

Only if you were currently serving in that ZIP code. You only get paid BAH if you live off base, and the rates vary by the zip code.

There are single and married rates, but anyone who lives off base gets paid BAH and BAS. Those who live in base housing do not get paid BAH, but they do get paid BAS.

I'm an E5 in Phx, single rate BAH rate for my is 847.
