Pay for warranty?

Just bought a used car(mostly for backup) and have been offered a 90 day warranty for $175 that covers up to $1000 if it needs fixed. I keep thinking to myself that I will likely get the run around if something did happen because the warranty is through some 3rd party place.

Should I bite the bullet and get it or is it likely another way to make a quick buck? He said they had a $90 up to $500 coverage as well but recommended the second level.

It's a 96 Geo Prizm(aka Toyota Corolla) if that matters.

Well its a old used car so it could very well do so.

Check out the third-party company with the BBB before you do anything. If they don't have a sterling reputation, then you know not to do it.

It's a gamble, pretty much.

How much did you pay for the car? And what is the mileage limit of the warranty? I would say not to get it because of the unknown nature of the company and because you'll be paying another 10% of the purchase price (guessing) for only 90 days/?mileage of coverage.
