Pay as you go Mobile Broadband

Greetings,

Just wondering if anyone knows of any companys that offer pay as you go mobile broadband, hopefully via usb. I'm looking at getting my mom a netbook, and want to get her onlien at her grandma's 3-4 months of the year. Most places lock you into a contract to even get a decent deal on the USB device reciever. Anyone know of any companies that don't charge an arm and a leg for reciever and go pay as you go? I've seen a few sites but they seem to be UK based. Any ideas?

I'd like to find a Prepaid/Pay As You go option too. I look around every 6 months or so and I've yet to find anything suitable.

Verizon's new MiFi can be pay-as you go. I think it is $10/day or something, however you do have to pay full price ($200 or so) for the box.

The advantage of the MiFi over others is that it is actually a standalone box. It has its own battery and 802.11g transmitter. You can just turn it on and set it down and get online. No need to use up a USB port for it.
