I've done a few stop motion videos before and I would say you'd need A LOT of pictures for that... maybe close to a thousand?

EDIT: After watching it again I'm going to up the number needed to over 1K. 😛

Psh, you don't need to take pics. Just get a decent video camera, make one huge video file, and use some software, like Virtualdub with AVISynth, to retain every Xth frame. 🙂
Then you just need precision timing to make sure you're not in any of the kept frames.
