We'd be back in the black in short order.
I was under the impression upstate NY was suffering economically.
If we get rid of our fearless leaders and their asinine programs and plans, I think we'd be in good shape. The stupid stuff these guys come up with is incredible.
Western NY isn't too bad off for employment, and properties are very reasonable. If it weren't for having the highest taxes in the nation, we'd be growing.
Thats why republicans are going to win in a landslide come November. Cut government spending and taxes, or get the hell out.

Republicans are only going to lay off people but they will still keep handing out millions of money to their Republican buddies to rip off the state. Its unfortunate the suckers on this board believe its a positive to cut an employee making $50k and keep a vender who does the same work and charges $120k.
thisAnd the Republicans won't deliver on that, and they'll go out after a cycle or two, and everything repeats, as long as people keep electing the same two parties.

Gotcha. I remember a few articles at RIT about upstate NY being in trouble, but yeah, the government of the state would really fuck that up.
THey've not gone down much because they never went up. They never went up because when people are paying 3-4% of their home's value every year in property taxes they cannot afford to pay much in principal. It's a wash, though, as long as you intend to stick around, but don't expect to get much equity in your house...and housing prices having really been hurt that badly

WNY is doing pretty well. Unemployment is around 8% in Rochester, and housing prices having really been hurt that badly. Mainly because they started retooling their economies a few years back. Yahoo had an article up not long ago listing it as one of the most recession proof cities.
I don't really blame Patterson for this mess. When it comes to state politics, Hayabusa and myself are pretty close. I'll need to pay more attention to our next local elections.

You can keep Albany, its a worthless money drain. If NYC is the 51st state, the state budget would look horrible while NYC will be fiscally sound.
" legalize ultimate fighting, allow the sale of wine in grocery stores, tax cigarette sales on Indian reservations and deploy speed-enforcement cameras in highway work zones. "
So how is this going to effect you? I know I'd rather keep people employed if all we are talking about is ultimate fighting and allowing grocery stores to sell wine. What does it matter if they are union workers or not? Sounds like you have a crummy job and you're jealous of people making a living wage.
NYC? You mean the bailout capital of the US? Home to corrupt street, AIG, billion dollar public subsidized ballparks, $1900/month one bedroom rentals NYC? Ah that one...
Let's see, you pay more taxes because you have more people then upstate? Or maybe you pay more taxes because the same stuff costs 4-5x more in NYC then upstate? Or maybe all your wealthy execs live in every other surrounding state other then NYS thus paying no taxes to you?
We'll take Albany back, but along with it goes all the agriculture, state parks and cheap living you'll now have to pay a premium for as tourist![]()
Lol you're an idiot. NYC pays more in taxes to the state and gets less back from the state. I'm not saying NYC pays more taxes than other cities. I'm saying we get less back from the state than we give.
