Patriot Torqx 2 Reliability

I'm putting a new build together for a client. It's going to have a low storage space SSD, because he really needs the speed over the storage. The only issue is picking a relativity reliable SSD.

Because it's for someone else, there's no way i'm going to risk going with a Vertex 2 or 3. They worked well for me (so far), but i can't take that risk with someone who's paying me for this system.

I'm interested in the Patriot Torqx 2, because of its price point and its suggested SATA II performance, but i don't know how reliable these things have been. All i've got to go off of are the lack of negative reviews on Newegg, really.

Has anybody heard anything about these?

Haven't heard much about the Phison controller it uses, but techpowerup did a review on the 128GB model, here is the conclusion page http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Patriot/Torqx_2_128_GB/10.html.

What was the price of the Patriot you were looking at? A quick shopbot search found me the 64GB Crucial M4 at CAD$107 or the 80GB Intel 320 at CAD$137, or the 64GB Samsung 830 at CAD$129. If you can find those models in the budget being worked with, they are all excellent choices if you're looking to avoid SandForce based drives.

The 64GB was exactly what i'm looking for. The client will be moving from an old 80GB 3200 rpm HDD that he wasn't using much of, so he should love this.

I've had a vertex 2 for nine months with no complaints, but i just don't think i'll get that lucky again.

Yes, but how many Phison based drives have been sold and how sure can we be that they are any more reliable than the SandForce drives? If the price difference between the Torqx 2 vs the Intel/Crucial/Samsung is significant enough then it may be worth the gamble, but if the price difference isn't huge then you're probably best going with one of those three brands to have the best chance at avoiding failure.

You mentioned the main focus is reliability, so the ones we can be reasonably sure of about reliability should be at the top of your list.

There's always the Kingston V200, I found one at CAD$84.99 (example: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=65529&vpn=SV200S37A%2F64G&manufacture=Kingston&promoid=1297), here is AnandTech's review of that one http://www.anandtech.com/show/5081/kingston-releases-ssdnow-v200-series though I'm not sure I'd go with that when a 64GB M4 is just over $100
