# Patriot Box Office All-in-one Media Player with HDMI $50

Please add "AR" (After Rebate) to your title.

K. Thx. Didn't know that. I don't normally post new threads. Sry.

Also, I was about to buy a 1tb external drive/dlna server until I found out, last night, this thing can server as a uPNP/dlna server also! whoo!
Saves me some cash. Can hook up new 2gb drive to it and use this baby as a server for my xbox and ps3. So excited.

For me this box has been a huge $$$ saver.

Here's my post talking about using it as a DLNA server.

In 4 One. I'm willing to take the chance with the rebate. Selling the extra's can net me an easy $30, maybe more, so the end cost is too good to pass up.

I already use a WD TV Live, in the mancave. We'll see how Patriots box stacks up against it.

Thanks OP !!

Can this play Netflix? If not can you stream the nexflix from your computer onto this?

No, but I use playon which does netflix and playon works with the patriot box through uPnp/Dlna. DLNA is a fancy way of saying media devices can talk to each other.

The patriot box community is pretty active so I wouldn't doubt if netflix was coming, but don't base your purchase on it. It does have a newer beta firmware with things such as weather, rss feeds, youtube, etc so I know they are working on adding things.

This thing rocks. I've had one in the living room for a while now and just ordered one for the bedroom. The rebate is only good for today so be quick if you want it and I also got my rebate back pretty fast last time.

This goes on sale quite often.
The last time it was on sale, I started asking around for the ONE feature I want/need: Video Shuffle.

Ironically, just today a Patriot rep responded to my post on their forums that video shuffle is coming soon. I will buy one then FOR SURE.

I just can't justify building a XBMC box for the bedroom in this case. Living room etc, fine. But not for "2ndary TVs"

I ordered one, it plays some stuff wirelessly, but not much on my wireless N network. It plays isos and most other things without an issue on the internal drive. I haven't figured out how to make it work on my wired network yet; I think I have a bad cable.

It has issues with files I have with the wmv extension, and will play nothing with that extension. besides that, I haven't found a file this player won't play. It will not play netflix out of the box, but apparently there are 3rd party tools to make it work.

Ya, if you do high def, you might not want to do wireless. I tried the wireless route and it didn't work. I did hard wired and it worked like a champ no sweat. I think you do have a bad cable.

Also, it played all the wmv files I could throw at it. Test your wmv file. Try playing your wmv with your xbox and I bet it won't play there either.

I use playon to get netflix through the box and it works great also.

Broke down and picked one up today.
I just can't wait any longer for something that has video shuffle I guess.
Had a $50 NE GC too, so its practically free.

I have one, and love it. Make sure you update your firmware (on the patriot forums).

Sadly my kids use it more than I ever have. No more searching for dvd's though!

Just got my rebate on Saturday ($35 VISA)
Honestly, while the PBO functions perfectly fine, its such a horrible step backwards from XBMC its hard for me to use and enjoy it. Functions like a champ though.

Yeah, mine functions like a champ. I like the "Instant Replay" button, which is something my (similar) Asus O'Play didn't have.

I picked up an AppleTV recently (the new brownie-size model) and put XBMC on it. The GUI is a little laggy, but it does play HD movies just fine. The hardware is limited to 720p output, but it auto-downscales 1080p content to 720p without stuttering. I don't know if any plugins work, but it's a pretty nice player for $99, plus it does Netflix from the main ATV menu, which is handy. Looking forward to more development on the XBMC/Plex side - I'll replace all of the streamer boxes in my house with these once the software gets better!
