True. The first Patriot Act was prepared before 9/11, and we're now officially in condition orange. An attack could be weeks away.

- The battle has moved inside America... I tell you, freedom and human rights in America are doomed. The US Government will lead the American people, and the West in general, into an unbearable hell and choking life.

Osama in Laden -

He was right. The US is surrendering.

I've never heard that claim before, do you have a source to back it up? That would be very interesting if it is the case.

Google a document called "The Phase III Report of the US Commission on National Security-21st Century." This is the original study, text and findings that later became USA Patriot. The bipartisan Commission finished its work on 1/31/01.

Argh. The first Patriot Act sucked and this one blows even more. Ashcroft is a nut that threatens the security of our state and needs to be removed from office. I'll be glad when the current administration has left office! :|

Since everyone here already thinks I'm an idiot, I might just as well continue on that theme. What makes you so sure they'll be an election in 2004? Just wait for another "terrorist attack" and expect Patriot Act III. The frog doesn't know when he's being boiled.

If this so called "Patriot Act II" is passed, we are in for some very scary sh8. AFIC, it is further proof that John Asscroft really is a wannabe führer. :|

It was the main topic last night, on PBS's Now - With Bill Moyers. Here are some of the sub-links from that page:

Breaking News.

Interview with Chuck Lewis, founder of the Center for Public Integrity, the non-partisan organization whose mission is to provide the American people with the findings of their investigations and analyses of public service, government accountability and ethics related issues.

Civil Liberties and War Timeline

More relevant links on the site. Looks like the Bush crowd didn't learn the lessons from WW II. :|

I was thinking....wouldn't Ashcroft love to be able to designate the ACLU as a terrorist organization?

Communist or national socialist? I don't hear them talking about socializing corporations, the contrary, Patriot Act II suggests making it illegal to report misdeeds by industry. And the administration seeks preventative strikes against potential enemies...sound familiar? They'll eliminate the rest of the amendments to the constitution next time around.

I'm a staunch conservative, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't incredibly glad to see the Goron gone and Bush in office, but in light of their actions over the last 1 1/2 years, I have to rethink my position on the current administration somewhat.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. No doubt these laws are being drafted to help protect us from the "evildoers", but the drafters of these kinds of bills seem to forget that the evildoers might themselves be part of our government, and that these things are just perfect for future abuse. We are only free so long as we can oversee the activities of our government and it's actions. The more secrecy and "special" kinds of rules we craft to deal with terrorism, the more we undermine our own freedom.

If I had any doubts left that Ashcroft was a freakin commie, they've been eliminated. SnapIT, you couldn't be more correct. We have truly let terrorists affect our way of life.
