Patrick Ewing finally retires

Not to sound like an @$$, but it's about time that guy retired. It's been pretty painful watching him play these past few years cuz he's so slow and crippled. Now that Sabonis is going to come back, I'll have someone else to wince at while I'm watching basketball.

Yeah, I feel bad for the old guy. All those years and recognition but no ring to back it up. It was weird watching him play the last couple of years...he's so old and wasn't good at all...it really did him injustice to his prime years.

And I didn't hear that Sabonis was coming back. Do you remember him during last years All-star weekend? He played in that 3 on 3 thing, and he was on the international team. Anyways, he tore it up there...he was hittin' 3's left and right. Who knows, maybe he'll have a good season

I hope he doesn't pull a Jordan and un-retire in a few years. However, he had a great career, with or without the ring. He'll be remembered as one of the greats. A Hall of Famer for sure.

Ewing would need a walker if he tried to come out of retirement.

I agree, it's about time he retired.

Now if only Olajuwin will retire, unless he has in the last year or so.

yea some guys u just dont let go to another team...and ewing looked like a black ninja turtle with all those kneepads and elbow pads...

arvydas is going to back up shaq, how scary is that? or better yet, put walker on the bench and put sabonis and shaq on the court at the same time, arvydas draws out one big man, shaq draws the other in, they'll be unstoppable

He's had trouble for years with his knee iirc correctly plus his age is finally catching up with him so its not too much of a surprise.

That's a shame. I really enjoyed that guy in that TV show Dallas. He was great! Remember when they had that cliffhanger and everyone was saying "Who shot JR?", then.....errrr.....wait, I'm thinking of JR Ewing. Sorry 😱

Who said he was going to play for the lakers? That article only mentioned that he was perhaps gonna sign with the Blazers.
That would be quite scary if the Laker's did get him, but they would still be no match for the King's, who will have Keon Clark and Jumaine Jones.

Keon Clark and Jumaine Jones? Shaq must be shaking in his boots...

heh, I had a video tape of the news way back when...and I remember they were doing a thing on Ewing playing....but I was a kid and didn't know what it was all about...just wanted to watch my cartoons.

Funny the things you remember from your childhood. 😛

I'm glad he's retiring now. He should've left before his stint in Seattle, and definitely before Orlando. 🙁

After Ewing, Olajuwon, and D. Robinson retire, it will definitely be an end to an era. In my opinion, the only true superstar center in the league will be Shaq. It's kind of sad to watch all of these old players keep trying to win it all one more time. I know Ewing should have gone out as a Knick. I hope they do what they do in football and re-sign him for like a day so he can retire a Knick. That would be a classy act by an organization.
