You don't have to have a credit card, or a computer, or the Internet, to get a hot deal sometimes. Just be patient and make your own.

I started buying checks through the mail a few years ago, using those discount offers that you find in the newspaper. I hate ordering checks, so I buy 2 boxes at a time. That lasts me about three years. A couple weeks ago it was time to reorder, so I grabbed one of the order forms that came with my first order of checks. The current price for checks (for existing customers) was $9.95/box + 1.75 shipping. On my old order form, they wanted $5.95/box + $1 shipping. I have run out of places to switch to in order to get "new customer" pricing, so I can't get special deal.

I used the old order form, and enclosed a check, and mailed it off. If I had called, or ordered over the net, there was no way to use the old prices. If I used a credit card they might have adjusted the total to account for the new prices. But I sent a check, so all they could have done is return it. I gambled that they wouldn't, and today I received my new checks. Net savings = over 40%.

And when I need checks again, I still have a pile of old order forms with old pricing.

Working for the bank I get free checks which doesn't matter anymore since I bank at a CU now (which gives me free checks anyways).

and I have used this model for years. Our local take-n-bake pizza Papa Murphy's (delicious pizza) sold these $5 coupon cards through school kids a few years ago. Well I bought 10 of them because I had nothing better to do than waste $50, help kids and eat a few pizza's in the process. Well we have only used 2 of the 10 cards so far. These have like 1997-1999 era prices.

haha thats great. i did that with my re-order form also. We only write checks for the mortgage, and car payments oh and CC payment.

so a box of checks takes a while to use. When we were about out we came onto the re-order form that had them for $5.98 a box. we orderd 4 boxes and got them. When we looked on the net for other checks we found out they are up to $9 a box. heh

let's see, rossman saves himself 20 to 30% on Laptops, LCD Screens etc and you save 40% on a $10.00 item. ya i'm sure he is trembling in his boots.

I say way to go. What is wrong with some some bucks on check reorders. It isn't deceitful if they accept the payment and ship 'em out. Sometimes the moral/ethic people on this board go way way way way way way way way way way way way way way way way way way overboard.

That's right. He offered and they accepted, and that's a contract. They didn't have to accept his offer.

Correct.

I'm a stickler for being ethical so when I saw cpa's comment I was caught off-guard. I didn't see anything wrong because they were certainly entitled to decline my order if they wished, and that would be that. I used no deceit whatsoever. And considering people who use fewer checks than I do will be using the same form when they wish to re-order, I can't see it as being underhanded in any way.
