Patching Medieval 2 : Total War

I installed vanilla M2 and then proceeded to install Kingdoms. Do I still have to patch M2 or do I just patch Kingdoms now? I downloaded a patch for Kingdoms and even after I unrar'ed it there is yet another rar inside with nearly identical contents. I got the patch from Fileshack. I tried to run the contents of the first patch rar file and I get an error related to the Americas campaign. Anyone know of an easier, more sure-fire way to patch these? Thanks.

Ahh, well, I'd have to uninstall them both then. Kingdoms said something about updating M2, so maybe I won't need to reinstall.

Patching Medieval 2 was a nightmare for me too. I can't even remember what I did. I even had to go into my registry to delete the install key because after uninstalling the game it thought I've all ready installed it.

All games should, in the expansion, carry the updated files for the vanilla. Medieval 2 is no different.

If you just bought Kingdoms and installed it then you should be up to date as far as patches go for the M2TW vanilla game. Now if you plan to try the Stainless Steel mod you will need more patches after installing kingdoms. Go to the total war site here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=314 and read up on what you need to do to get SSv6.1 if you want to try the SS mod.

Edit: If I remember correctly when I did it I did a fresh install of M2TW (no patches) and then installed Kingdoms. Then I downloaded the three patch updates to play SS.
