Patch v1.4, or, What Made World of Warcraft Suck

Important notes: I'm a lvl 40 tauren shaman, I play on Windrunner, and I don't PvP all that much. Before last night, I had probably dueled four times, and I don't think I had ever killed someone in PvP.

Last night: d/l patch, start playing. I go to Booty Bay to kill Bloodsail Pirates just north of town. Pirates are sparse, and a lvl 41 Human Pally (or warrior, can't remember) stopped by, and we're both trying to get the guys as they pop up, and while we were waiting, I challenge him to a duel. Rocked his world. Then later he challenged me when I was out of mana. After a LONG duel, he beats me. Then instead of bowing gracefully, he spits on me and proceeds to laugh and point at me. Whatever. So I duel him again later - with full mana - and I pwn him quickly. Then someone I can only assume is his friend stops by (lvl 45 Dwark warrior). They're killing the pirates together. His friend has PvP on. Long story short, I accidentally right-clicked on him while he was standing in my way, and even though I didn't hit him, my PvP flag went up, and they both rocked my world.

So I go back after my flag wears off, and I am VERY careful now. I try duel the guy I had dueled before, but I can't because he has his flag on (see, I PvP so little, I had no idea you couldn't do this). Then two more guys show up, and all 4 are killing the same pirates, so I assume they're also friends. They both had their PvP flags on and they're doing their best to get me to click on them when I'm trying to click on pirates.

They got me again, and then proceeded to kill me two more times while camping on my body. At one point, a guild mate logged on, and I beg him to come all the way there from Ogrimmar to help me get away. I managed to get out by myself, and now I'm mad, so I figure it's time to start learning about PvP. I recruit a lvl 45 Orc mage in Booty Bay, and run back. We did alright for awhile, but were eventually driven back into town. So I'm done with PvP, and I'm waiting for my PvP flag to wear off.

I'm running around town, and Alliance guys are attacking me. I figure they're just trying to kill me before the guards kill them. Nobody gets me, so I'm just running around trying to stay near the guards. Now granted, I'm laughing at the guys after they die, but I had finished my Bloodsail Pirate quest, and was planning on going far away after I get done. After about 10 minutes, I realize (again, I had never PvP'd extensively before) that them hitting me is keeping my flag from turning off. So now I'm ticked. As long as they're around messing with me (and at this point there were groups of as many as 5 coming at me at a time) I'm never going to get out. Finally, there were like 10 guys surrounding me about to attack, and I was able to recall out of there to Ogri. That was it. Done for the night.

So this morning, I log on to check my two auctions. I see I've got mail, so I walk from the Inn to the mailbox outside the bank. As I'm getitng my mail (mind you, I get up at 6:00 local time, so I'm not totally coherent), I realize I'm getting attacked. I look down, and there's a note that Ogrimmar is under attack. FVCKING OGRIMMAR?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?! Plus, having never turn PvP on manually, I thought it would go off over night. Nope. I reincarnated (mind you, I have like 2 minutes to mess around and then I have to get ready for work), and if I hadn't been able to stay away at that point, I would be talking about how I was not going to play WoW again.

So, for those of you that are not going to read that, here is my summary for what I want Blizzard to do:

- If I haven't actually typed in /PvP, don't allow me to get tricked into PvP. If nothing else, at least have a different trigger that puts you in that state rather than full PvP immediately, but if I'm trying to just finish a quest, I don't want to be bothered by people purposely trying to get in my way. I mean, what if I'm lvl 45, trying to kill Tethis, and a lvl 60 human just decides to get in my way. What's to stop him from being a d1ck?
- If I am BEING attacked but not actually attacking someone, my 5 minutes should be counting down. The only way this could be possible is if I'm in a town trying to stay away from people, because you couldn't freaking run away from people outside of a town for 5 minutes and not die.
- If I log off for more than 5 minutes, turn off my fvcking PvP flag. I shouldn't have to go through what I went through this morning.
- Oh, and turn off this fvcking PvP honor system b.s. in non-PvP worlds. It's a nightmare. A BATTLE IN THE MIDDLE OF OGRIMMAR?!?! That's insane. It's completely out of control when I can't even log on for 2 minutes to check my auctions.

I think part of new patch is that pvp is a toggle now and doesn't wear off. You need to manually type /pvp to turn it off. Of course, you have to wait 5 minutes before you can do that, otherwise you can attack somebody and then turn your pvp off.

I know you can't turn it off immediately, but I know it still wears off. I discussed this with someone online last night.

* The /pvp flag has been changed to a toggle. Now once /pvp is turned on, you will be flagged for PvP until it is turned off. The /pvp flag will remain even after logging out, so please remember to turn off the /pvp flag if you do not wish to engage in PvP. This option is only available to players on Normal and Role Play realms.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something, this explicitly states that /pvp flag won't wear off by itself.

OK then... that's retarded, but I guess I can do that. That still doesn't fix the fact that I shouldn't be able to go into PvP just because I right-click on someone. If I have to toggle the mother fvcker off, why don't I have to toggle it on?

I'm a mage so I don't have that problem :) Barely use right click at all.

It's a game. I want to be able to play the GAME without being harassed. If I knew the game was like this when I first bought it, I wouldn't have paid for it. The way it is now, I paid for the game and would like to enjoy it the way it was when I started playing it. If they want to change it into a PvP game, then give me my fvcking money back. I didn't pay for an entirely PvP game.

My post as copied from this thread:

i wish i could transfer my 52 warlock from Bleeding Hollow (a very large PvP server) to a smaller PvE server...

Last night I was repeatedly ganked by 4 lvl 60's, corpse camped, etc in Un'Goro crater.

I finally got away, and when I got to Gadgetzan the flight path guy was being camped by alliance like crazy. I died 4 times before I was able to catch a flight to Orgrimmar

I know it is my own fault for choosing a PvP server, but I guess my idea of what PvP was going to be was skewed by my thinking people would not be asshat gankers.

I quit back in Feb, thought I'd try it out again to see if anything changed for the better, and now I have gone from kind of liking the game to hating it... wish they would let you transfer from PvP server to PvE server... but still, I'm sure the PvE servers will constantly have opposite faction attacking their towns

You post on a computer hardware's message board - the same as I - and you're telling me to get a life? Wake up. You're a computer geek just like the rest of us.

I love people like you that post on here and don't think you're like everyone else.

As I said, I'm on Windrunner. It's a PvE server, and I'd imagine it can't be much worse than this on a PvP server.

At least you can log on and play. If I login after 5 I get about 3 minutes before the connection is dropped. From what I've found, Blizzard isn't doing much to fix this problem that myself and others are having.

Exactly. He's still new and under the impression that everyone in here except for him is just another skywalker66 that can't talk to members of the opposite sex, sits in his/her parents' basement all day playing computer games.

Are you on a high population server? I was fine when I first started playing, I had some problems about a month ago when they let transfers in, but for the last three weeks (unless a patch just came out), everything has been fine.

Interestingly enough, I too have a lvl 40 horde shaman. I also have a lvl 60 alliance warlock. To me this patch is very different. I've been playing on a PVP server, and up until now lvl 60's would come along ganking me haplessly for no reason. Now with the honor system introduced I can make it a point to go seek out people who are my level to fight. The lvl 60's don't really bother with me anymore because they have bigger fish to fry. If you play on a PVP server this patch turned the world into all out anarchy. There are fights going on EVERYWHERE. Having played a lot of MMO's before this is what I've come to enjoy about it. Ify ou expect to be safe in a video game, go play a single player game with god mode on. This is the patch that made WoW a much less carebear game.

So far since the patch I've died 28x and gotten 44 kills. The deaths do nothing to hurt your character except take a few minutes for you to run back to your body.

I'm on Uther, which generally isn't that high. I've noticed that spawning into Crossroads for example, I'll be invisible and everyone will be naked for the short duration before being dropped. Frustrating.

Oh also, last night I spawned into the Inn at xroads, walk out, and the whole town's been wiped out. There were a couple NEs running away. That was frusterating too because they killed the bat handler so I couldn't get out of the area. (to maybe save myself from getting dropped)

Have you tried Blizzard tech support? That's not right. I don't know anyone else that has that problem. Are you on dial-up?
