Patch Panel / Jack wiring trouble

I've heard that if there is a wiring problem you can switch certain wires among the 8 wires within the cat-5 cable to regain connection. Blue and brown I think it is...? Anywho, exactly which wires do you switch? Solid Blue w/ Solid Brown and Striped blue w/ Striped brown? Is this all? Thanks in advance guys.
