Patch Cable Tester

I recently was out on a call and had to make a patch cable. Tested it and matched up the colors on both ends but for some reason one of the ends was messed up and didn't work took me an hour to narrow it down because I ruled out the cable when it tested fine.

I tested it with a tool similar to this

Is there a better tester that I could use that would be more sensitive and/or give a more detailed read out of the issue?
 
I would rather use the premade cables but for our business it would be more of a hassle to bring several different length cables as appose to one box with it there.

More like a short in the cable. If in doubt throw it out and make a new one. Never had a problem and have made hundreds.
 
The tester that you link too is OK for Home network.

For business or network that has to be ON and run smoothly you need the Fluke.

@Leymenaide-It would have been nice to do that but it was already run through walls and ceilings because I had already tested it and it tested fine.

@JackMDS-Is there a tester at Fluke that would be in between the one I listed and the one that was listed by imagoon? In a lesser price range? We don't do a lot of cable installs but having a more detailed tester is nice to have to reduce call times.
 
I have the $80 tester from Monoprice and it works great. The reason I wanted it is because it tests length, which is great for evaluating pre-existing inwall cable. It's also good to make sure that inwall cable is terminated correctly.

Otherwise, just use premade cables.

Persoanly for my own use and helping end-user I use one of these sub $100 gizmos.

Howver for pro purposes, it is more than just one time expense and wether the device can do basic network job.

I do not know the circumstances but in pro level it might involve aspects of certification, security, insurance, and financial responsibility of the work quality if there is a dispute.

Thus it is better to be able to state I used Fluke for ensuring the cabling quality and not some "el-cheappo".

I do not know which of the Models you looked at, but this is Not a bank breaker.

Thank you everyone for your help. We have selected a product tester after looking at the fluke models that would fit our needs.
