Hey, I got that HiVal 12x dvd player from Circuit City when they were $69.00
I just wanted to report here that it runs movies very smooth, I even had to replace my Geforce2 vid card with my old 16 meg TNT2 and for kicks I slipped in a DVD (Gone in 60 seconds) WHAT A RIDE!!!
Hey, it played without any trouble! And I don't have a hardware decoder!!!
Granted I have the mem at 175mhz and the core at 160mhz on this old Diamond TNT2 card,
and my system is a 925mhz P3 fcpga with 256 megs of mosel...
Just wanted to share this, hope it's not too off topic for the mods
Anyway, if you are considering buying a DVD player for your system but are worried about having a hardware decoder... Look for a player that comes bundled with PowerDVD -
the Hi-Val did come with it, version 2.5 which I upgraded for $19.95 on their website.
