I need to set a password on my computer so no one can get on it, how can I do this ? I know its a newbie question but I never needed to do this so I cant seem to remember how to.

Im running windows 98se.

Thanks.

If you leave your computer running all the time then set s a screensaver password (under the Display control panel). But make sure you're using a microsoft screen saver not one of those dumb a$$ .exe screen savers that are all over the place, you can force quit those (even if they're passworded).

If not at the BIOS level, the next best thing is to "lock" your machine. In Win2K, this is done by CTRL>Alt>Del, Lock Computer. If I'm going to be away for a while, I'll do that and turn off the monitor.

Best way to do this is at the BIOS level. Just go through your BIOS and set it.

I would also use a BIOS password mainly because Win98 is so easily bypassed. I'm not saying Windows XP is unhackable too but not as much as Win 9x.

Ya that's a NT/2K/XP feature, it isn't available in 98se.

Try disabling the network connection if the user isn?t computer savvy.
