Passive heatsink on a Geforce 4?

Hello,

I may soon be in the market for a Geforce 4 Ti4200 video card to replace my Voodoo5. At the same time, I'm trying to make my system quieter by removing fans. What I'd like to do is remove the standard cooling from the card and replace it with a high quality 60mm heatsink from Alpha or something similar, and have no fan on the card. From what I've seen, almost all of the Geforce 4's have quite a bit of space around the GPU, but it's very hard to tell if any components would get in the way of a 60mm heatsink. (ie. do any surface components rise above the core?)

Also, for some reason I think that there is an onboard thermal diode in the Geforce 4 core. Can anyone confirm or deny this? If there is one, must I buy from a certain manufacturer in order to take advantage of it?

If anyone has any suggestions for me, or can provide links to helpful information, I'd be greatly appreciative!

Thanks,
-Brian

Try an Abit GF4. They've got a pretty quiet hsf. I don't think you'd be able to hear it over your hard drives.

zalman is supposed to come out with a heatsink using heatpipe technology some time next week. From what I've heard, its goona be pretty nice performer. I am eagerly anticipating attaching this baby to a geforce4 of some sort in the future! Sorry no link, but you can google it, im sure you'll find it
