Not that anyone really cares, but TPOTC received three Oscar nominations while 9/11 received none.

TPOTC received nods in these categories:

Best cinematography
Best makeup
Best original score

None of the "big" categories of course, but kudos to Mel.

Oscars are for pretty people.

Micheal Moore is the beauty antichrist. They didn't want him bringing down the comeliness quotient of the show.

?Super Size Me?

Your point being what? You do know that 9/11 was disqualified from being nominated right?

How is this a "victory"? An artistically poor, financially successful film was nominated for a few minor Academy Awards. Who cares about the Academy Awards anyway?

Michael Moore?s gamble to hold his hit film ?Fahrenheit 9/11? out of the documentary category ? to boost its best-picture prospects ? backfired. The movie was shut out across the board. Moore won the documentary prize two years ago for ?Bowling for Columbine.? (Quoting MSNBC.)

It was only DQed from documnetary, not best picture, which is what he wanted.

edit: Oh, and I think the topic is irrelevant. Why compare the two films together?

Name one documentary that Michael Moore has ever made.

So 'The Aviator' is far superior to that snuff movie with the hippie? After all, it got a lot more nominations, and more important ones too.

I didn't realize he was hoping for a BP nomination after he was DQ'd. That sounds like something he would do. In that it is stupid, melodramatic, and somewhat interesting. But doomed to fail. The only documentaries I've seen that deserved to be nominated for best picture are The Thin Blue Line and Hoop Dreams.

Why not? They voted the vastly inferior Bowling for Columbine (which I thought was dreadful) Best Documentary. If MM hadn't removed F9/11 from consideration for Best Documentary, I'd have to believe it would've won.

I'm don't know jack about makeup, but  for Oscars nods in the other two categories - both were things I noticed that TPOTC excelled in.

I hope they win Best makeup. There were some awfully gruesome scenes that look real!

should win best makeup hands down due the realism that was protrayed (RaDragon's comment that i agree with). I think they should win best score too because the only movie(s) that are on par with TPOTC where the LOTRs. Best cinematography is a tossup.

I know they didnt (and why they didnt) get nominated for the bigger awards--best picture, supporting actress, best director, best actor, etc. and only got nominated for the lesser awards to prevent a backlash from the people so why didnt they get nominated for best costumes?

Gotta love people when they swear up and down they don't care what movie critics say, and jump in joy when they see their favorite movies honored(see LOTR for this example).
