Passing a kidney stone?

I've never had this sort of thing happen before..

First, I woke to a phonecall saying that a friend that lives 2 states away has rented something at blockbuster that is 7 days overdue. (havn't used my bb card in 8 years)
WTF???

Fell back asleep.. awoke suddenly with sharp pains in my front right side.. I couldn't move it hurt so bad.. just laid there paralyzed enduring it. After about 5 minutes the pain slowly moved around my side to my back right side. (kidney region I think?) Endured that for another 5 minutes.. was finally able to get up.. went pee while pain reduced slightly.. a few minutes later at it was mostly gone.

Then I felt like I was going to throw up for about a half an hour. Still slight pain but endurable. And my back right side is now still hurting slightly.

I don't know what to think of it. Any ideas?

Tough call. If you go to a prompt care/ED they are just going to likely do blood/urine lab, a CT, offer you some pain med, keep you under observation, and have you pee through a screen until you pass it. Nothing else unless it's so large that you can't pass it and they need to go in and remove it.

The other big thing that needs to be ruled out is that it's not your appendix. Is it on the right or left side of your body?

[edit] saw that it was on the right side....

probably better safe than sorry and check into a prompt care and rule out appendix issues

From my eyes, it would be front right.. If you are facing me it would be my front left that you see.

friend of mine has bad kidney stone problems. He's a pretty tough guy, but these things wipe him out. "hot knife" is a phrase he uses to describe it.

OP, drink a lot of water...

yes def drink a lot of water may break it up a little

kidney stone pain isnt usually in the front. You better go make sure its not your appendix.

Kidney stones, while moving from your kidney to your bladder, will usually have a diffuse pain in the back on the side of the stone.

Have had more than my share of kidney stones. The pain can/will radiate from your back (kidney) around to front (bladder). The pain is unbearable. The kind where you end up on the floor in a fetal position. Yes, I've had relief from the pain after a good pee. I've had two lithotripsy's (?sp). One they had to go up in and remove a stone that had gotten stuck in the ureter. The other was shockwave therapy to break a large "un-passable" stone. Gotta love narcotic pain killers.

Good luck. Go see a Dr. pronto to rule out more serious conditions.

it's terrible, and there's going to be blood. good luck OP it will feel better when it comes out, make sure you drink cranberry juice and plenty of water to avoid a UTI.

sounds a lot like the pain I had from small intestine spasms. Hurt like hell on back and side. Went away after a half hour.

Turns out I had a reaction to some dairy products. It came out in the end.

Supposedly these can be worse than childbirth. 🙁

With exception of getting slapped (which made me cry 🙁 ), childbirth for me was pretty easy, even with someone pushing on me the whole time. 🙂

I see what you did there.

Yeah I had that happen to me a couple years ago. Woke up and just had the biggest pains in my left back. I was nearly in tears but it went away after a few hours. Ended up going to a doctor and did all these tests but couldn't find anything else. They were just kidney stones but they hurt like hell.

I passed a kidney stone and had appendicitis in a 3 month span. Talk about shitty quality of life for that time period. I probably puked and dry heaved 1000 between both of those.

Your appendix is up and over from your pubic area a few inches. My appendix ruptured in 1987 and I missed the signs of extreme pain in that area for 5 or 6 days. The pain was definitely in a different area than the kidney stones I have passed. My 2 kidney stones have both originated in the right kidney. I would wake up in the morning and it felt like I had been beat badly around my right kidney. Over the next few days the pain slowly moved along my right ureter that left no doubt to what was going on.

Go get checked out just in case !
